worse concussion i ever had was when my shoulder clipped another shoulder slightly and my head whipped backwards. I was out of it to the point where my friends said i was talking gibberish. I don't remember much of any of it

I was diagnosed with whiplash from a car accident, but how that wasn't a concussion I have no clue. Had to lay in bed with lights off for 3 days (which is really hard to do). But again, this is whiplash/concussions, which are bruisings of the brain. Not sure that migraines have the same causes.

Right...but are migraines and concussions directly related?

It could be because his lack of training hasn't made his body ready to be impacted in such a way without more rigorous training. I know my body isn't, and I'm not suffering from any head issues.

Just asking.

Head injuries/concussions/migraines are unique to the individual.
If the Flyers knew he had a migraine issue during his youth, I'm questioning why they drafted him. I mean you can't use the second pick in the draft on a player who has a pre-exisitng condition. And this isn't Monday morning quarterbacking. I did not know he had this condition before he was drafted. If he didn't have the migraine issue then I stand corrected.

my migraines had no one same trigger which is what made them so frustrating. I had to take meds the moment the aura started or my brain was rendered useless for 24 hrs. i'm not even exaggerating. it was freaky. Like I would try to say dog and the word cat would come out. same with texting. my brain would misfire. weirdly hockey never triggered a migraine even if the aura started but I also don't play full contact with 200 lb men.

He did have a pre-existing migraine issue that had dissipated for years and has now come back. This is known. There was no sign that they would return, as they had been gone for years. I had tons of ear infections as a child up until about 6 years old; should I be worried that I will start getting them again after decades have passed without one?

I'm asking if physical contact can trigger/worsen migraines. That is my only question.

if he hadn't had issues since childhood meaning it hasn't been a chronic issue since then, I don't think drafting him was a mistake.

I look at half the Jackets roster and think to myself, “who are you people?”

They do. Hard team to outwork. They don't give up a lot of odd-man rushes, normally don't hurt themselves with turnovers. Give their goalie a chance to make most saves, and have been getting them. Do that, and you have a chance to win most games even if you don't have a ton of offensive firepower.

I'm a fan of that, but not a fan of Schlemko using $600K of dead space next year.
- jmatchett383

He also apparently said the cap ceiling came in $500,000 lower than they had been told, so he then bought out Schlemko to free up a little extra space in 19-20.

Yeah, it makes sense why he did it, just not a fan of having to live with it next year.

No reason to get into an arms race because they're not likely contenders. But if it's a small move to upgrade the bottom-6, I'm not opposed. The only thing is that, nowadays, so many more teams are still "in it" at the TDL that there are fewer and fewer sellers. I just did a quick look at some of the teams a ways out and the best 3C/4C options I saw (without moving roster players the other way) are Brian Boyle and, honestly, Nick Cousins. And even their teams technically aren't in full sell mode.

How about Tyler Ennis, pure rental could probably be had for a pretty meaningless draft pick. 800k, actually having a nice season, 14G. Played for Fletcher a few years ago.

Missed him. But yes, that's a good one. Haven't seen him play much, but had good wheels. But I think he may command more than a 4th/B- prospect, and that's kinda my ceiling for a bottom-6 rental.

Right now, including Ghost, the Flyers have a 21-man roster and a little over $2M cap space available. If Patrick comes back, his cap hit is under $1M. They could carry 8D and have him be #8.

And yes, he is available, but at his full $5M+ cap hit.

- jmatchett383

They could but I'm assuming the Flyers would putting adding a forward as a higher priority.

Cap era and all. Still not used to being so quiet on or around the trade deadline. All teams seemed to deal more even ten year ago.

While a rental that we anticipate keeping would be interesting there is no one out there really intriguing. Or feasible.
However. Feeling Antsy.

Like was posted a few posts above, I wouldn't mind adding Ennis as a rental depending on the cost.

Honestly that would be the kind of no risk move I would be okay with. Not giving up any quality assets or future cap commitments. I just think they'd be looking at forward. I'm perfectly okay with Bunnaman as the 4th line center. Let him play.

I know I am comparing apple to oranges- diabetes is not migraines, and Clarke was not taken #2, but Flyers wouldnot have had their best captain had not they taken the risk.

Also, Nolan was consensus # 2 pick, there were no discussion by other teams about his condition.

This is what annoys the hell out of me when people go "wE sHoUlDnT hAvE dRaFtEd PaTrIcK"

Not only was he the consensus #2, but for a year or two prior he was the consensus #1!

there was zero reporting about this condition and no other GM was concerned about it.

Its not even a discussion. The franchise would have been looked at crosseyed by EVERY SINGLE hockey related authority had they not chosen Hischier or Patrick.

Especially with the team's glaring need to add a big center-man to the prospect pool. And at this time people were concerned over Giroux declining.

I get severe headaches after playing hockey. Head pretty much kills for the next 12 hours. Try Advil and Tylenol but doent help. I couldnt imagine trying to play when my head feels like that.
