Madden is a good prospect, but realistically he's about the 4th best forward prospect the Canucks have in their system, behind Podkolzin, Hoglander, and Lind. He's also a center, so he is behind the young core of Petersson, Horvat, and Gaudette. Hurts to let him go? Ya. But it's a position they're deeper in, and him being 5'11" and 155 lbs, he's realistically 2-3 years away from playing the in NHL.

I agree they're not set up right now for a deep run, but our division is so poop that they could make a splash once they get in. Would have preferred them to stay put this TDL, but getting a 27 year old 20 goal scorer helps more now, and hopefully they can resign him so it balances out those next 4 years.

Great post NYN.
Plus with the Boeser injury, the time to add is now. JB needed to show that he supports his team when the crunch time hits.

Doesn’t seem like an overpay, at first glance. But I still don’t understand the logic from Vancouver’s perspective. You’re ahead of schedule in your rebuild, sure, but are you realistically competing for a cup? I would say definitely not. So why give up assets for a Ferland replacement? If anything, Ferland’s latest diagnosis should solidify their “stand pat” strategy

the fact Bennings gave a first to Tampa for Miller (that has now become Coleman) was an indication he seemed to want things moving in Vancouver, I think ownership is obliging him to at least make the playoffs and then go from there.
