The points they put up are great but it does not help if you are giving up a lot of goals back. JT just wants to play offense and it was not changing going to the Leafs or anywhere else.

Hopefully not to the Islanders. Putting aside the question of lack of cap space, I think that JT is proving (once again) that he is not a $11 million/season player. Yes, his offensive stats are gaudy, but he's still not a 2-way player which is what championship teams require.

I agree John. It's a bad look when you are the captain of the team and have no interest in being a leader or playing defense. I wanted JT back but he has real warts to his game. The Leafs had more than enough skilled players and could have put the JT money towards badly needed defense. In a Cap world, it's hard to load up on what you already have instead of filling in holes.

The Isles needed JT and the Leafs really did not when they have Matthews as a 1C. It was a nice story hometown boy goes home but it prevents the Leafs from doing a lot to improve the overall team.
