The worst part of the Sabres this season has been goaltending and the PK (which is also goaltending). It’s undeniably the reason they’re out of the playoff race.
The Sabres high danger chance % is 49.31% as a team 5 on 5. Middle of the pack
Yet the actual goal differential is bad, and the special teams goal differential is worse.
It sunk them. - sbroads24
30 out of 31 in penalty kill sure did not help them. |

Not having a real 2nd line or 3rd line is what sunk them
As of a week ago, there were only 5 goalies who had played as many or more games than Ullmark who had a better save percentage
Theres just no way to pin their results with him in the net on him. He did his part.
This roster is fundamentally flawed |

If hutton makes one more save at any point and doesnt blow it on their second goal we get to OT at worst, despite a bad save percentage. To me it isnt about 3 or 4 individual games but situationally throughout the season. He sucks and has absolutely cost us points in the standings, last night being the latest example
Its been his MO all year.
Perhaps he should have gotten 6 or 7 less starts |

Regardless of how flawed any roster is you need to have better goaltending than what hutton has provided.
Unfortunately ullmark was heating up while skinner and olofsson were hurt, and then got hurt upon their return
It doesnt excuse hutton. In my estimation this is not a bottom 5 team and with how tight the standings are aside from the very bottom it is easy and fair to say with better team goaltending we are right where we want to be

Some of the possible signs and symptoms of CTE can occur in many other conditions, but in the few people with proven CTE , symptoms have included:
Difficulty thinking (cognitive impairment)
Impulsive behavior.
Depression or apathy.
Short-term memory loss.
Difficulty planning and carrying out tasks (executive function)
Keep calling me crazy. But Botts should have never been hired with his history of head trauma.
The poor guy has brain damage and obviously can’t perform the tasks of his job. |

We have scored double digit more goals than our most comparable teams in Dallas, Columbus and New York. |

Raw sv% is a flawed way to look at it.
The Sabres goalies are both way under in expected sv% based on shot quality.
The Sabres play similarly to the Isles, who routinely have goalies in the .925-.930’s.
The Sabres have a guy who’s at .894 who’s played almost half the games.
Ullmark ranks 51st in high danger Save %. Hutton 37th
They literally don’t make tough saves

Two words, Jack Eichel. If he's not on fire we lose. Also the Sabres have 8 more goals than the Isles in 2 more GP. |

While I’ll admit I’d like them to be better. Goaltending is in last in terms of what I want this team to Target.
Hopefully putting a more competent team in front of them will help them, hopefully.

They should call up UPL at the end of the year and give him a few starts. Johansson doesn't look like an NHL goalie to me. I know the stats have been rough in the AHL but I'd be interested in seeing him |

Watched the game on TSN last night.. they had a graphic that showed goal totals from each line for the season.
1st line ~72 goals
lines 2, 3, and 4 between 20 - 25 goal each. |

The sabres have lost 13 games when they didnt get shut out by 1 goal.
Add in the games they lost by more than 1 by way of empty net and you have your reason for being all but out of the playoff race |

The team in front of them is semi competent.
They’re 19th in 5 on 5 goals for. 20th in PP goals for
7th in limiting high danger chances.
PK and goaltending drops them out of relevance

That's pretty interesting.
Kinda looks like we need 6 better forwards at least (middle) or better production |

Goaltending has this team in the playoffs.
Adding a 2C (to get Skinner going) and top 9 winger will have teams take us seriously as a perennial contender moving forward. ( Assuming Eichel, Reinhart, Dahlin, Joker take another step forward and Cozens becoming a factor on the big club) |

This team is closer to a playoff team than we think. If we got Just average goaltending this year we’d be either contending for a playoff spot or comfortably in one. Goaltending has been hideous. Now, we’re not close to a Stanley cup contend team - we Need a top 10 goalie, a 2C and another top 6 winger for that |
