Pretty much every other team agrees to honor NMC/NTCs, because it's a show of respect for the players. You do that so players are comfortable signing as free agents or being traded to your franchise. - Antilles
Says the guy of the fan of a team that used a loophole to trade Patrick Berglund to a team he didn't want to go to.

If I may be so bold, I’m thinking you might just be a big supporter of one Theodore Nolan. I enjoyed his first stint with the team quite a bit. - PrinceChill
Except that was expected to be line 1. Not line 2.
The point I’m making is that giving him those strong line mates could’ve progressed his game. Not allowed him to lose confidence and regress. - sbroads24
I dont agree with the logic that says that if he fails in a lesser role, put him in a larger role
i should clarify (again, thats my bad) when i was referring to luck i was originally referring to the playoffs, especially when you get down to best of 3, or winner take all/overtime situations.
To your point, the luck averages out over the season, but the best teams are better at taking advantage of it more often than the mediocre or bad teams. - Michael Ghofrani
I agree with this theory. For instance, some have said that the Bills will never win a Superbowl with Josh Allen as QB because Mahommes, Lamar Jackson etc all play in the AFC. But as we just saw in the recent NFL playoffs, in a single game knock-out environment, literally any team can win on any given day. Thus, the key is to just get to the dance (playoffs) because anything can happen - see Columbus sweeping Tampa last year in round 1.

Is trading a player just before his NMC kicks in also a show of respect? You're inventing an issue here.

The person that chose to not honor it no longer is employed here.
Bogosian's NMC was voided when he was traded to the Sabres - Michael Ghofrani
Exactly. Most teams honor NMC/NTC's, Buffalo didn't.
However, as someone pointed out, I forgot that was a previous GM who refused to honor the NMC when Bogosian got traded. Meaning unless the previous GM had a handshake agreement to honor it, but not put it in writing for the sake of the expansion draft, it's on him not Botterill.
Berglund never had a NMC, he had the right to submit a list of teams he didn't want to be traded to, and never bothered. - Antilles
Never mentioned Berglund. Since you're here arguing about optional showings of respect, I can only assume you have an issue with the way the Blue's handled the situation and think it will have implications on players signing there in the future.

Or, you know, since other posters referred to Berglund and your post seemed to be about him as well, I just picked the last one I read to respond to rather than looking for one that named him specifically.
Berglund loved playing in St. Louis, but lost his love of the game in Buffalo. O'Reilly loves playing in St. Louis, but lost his love of the game in Buffalo. Buffalo has a reason to be concerned that players would be wary of playing there. St. Louis doesn't. And even with all that. no I don't love how Armstrong handled the Berglund situation. But since even Berglund seems to fault his agent more than the Blues, it's not a huge concern.
Again, the premise is pre-fail. As in they should’ve tried it day 1.
He didn’t fail as a rookie getting 13 goals in limited minutes, in his first year in pro hockey.
He failed to make a jump in year 2, under a new coach and bad line-mates.
Remember game 1? When Sheary buried two of his nice feeds? You don’t think that could’ve continued with wingers who are good most of the time? - sbroads24
I remember at least one of the goals being super fluky. Like he took a shot from 2 feet behind Sheary and it went off his stick.
I disagree that Mittelstadt is a victim of circumstance. He just wasnt good enough to be a 2C imo

I’m not arguing he was good enough to be a 2C.
I’m arguing Jeff Skinner, who’s historically produced with mediocre centers, and Sam Reinhart, who the GM states can drive his own line, could’ve provided some space and potentially some confidence for Mitts.
Two really good wingers can absolutely drive a below average center
