Ironic that sam plays with the best current player in the nhl. Wow , he's a top 20 scoring winger.

Why aren't you bringing up leon and his he only scores because of McDavid anymore?

10 points in 4 games without McDavid

I don't look back

I mean I could ask what if every day of my life, or I can work with the cards I am currently handed

we need to get better players

trade 2 or 3 guys for 1 player that is much better then those 2 or 3

the last thing we need is to trade one of our better players for pieces

you want to contend, trade risto and johansson for RNH

trade mccabe, davidsson and the 2021 first round pick for mantha

that is how you get better and compete right away

McDavid got hurt while fighting.

People called him an idiot, and said he has no business fighting.

McDavid, rarely fight, Rarely hits.

he is tough to play against because he is so offensively gifted and the fastet player in teh league.

- ImThatGuy

His 3 major injuries were effort plays.

they won't

but it's the moves they should be making

The change that the core needs is we need more of them.

We have 4 or 5 guys that are trying to be an entire team of 20. The other 5 or 16 are crap or vanilla.

Keep the 4 or 5 we have and add like 4 or 5 more and then we will be the perennial contenders everybody wants.

- Der Kaiser

I see this side of the argument as well.

Just opinions vary on the "core" . Sam could be core, could be part if the rotten core too?

Which way is easier/practical way to win?

Find all the fastest best scorers in the league to come to buffalo?

Or have some scoring and some guys that can plug away and slow the pressing teams down?
Throw them off their game or contain them
- Boss34

i know you are an anti analytics bastion but that is exactly what this current sabres team does. almost better than any other team in the league.

they drain the life out of games, make them as boring as possible with as few scoring chances as possible. but they can't score, and they don't win.

maybe if they brought back hasek this would work better

Oh My gawd.... Your OK with a player getting hurt as long as he is showing what you constitute as effort?

So you would be OK with Jack throwing a thunderous open ice body check but blowing out his knee while doing it?

I just don't get that. You are entitled to your opinion and I respect it. Just don't agree with it.

C'mon man.

His injury last year was a freak accident from driving to the net, which nearly every NHL player does.

This last injury he went mindlessly crashing into the boards and fell.

Nothing to do with effort on either of those plays.

Its also, 100% false.
McDavid was going to teh net and fell causing him to crash into the post awkwardly.

it was a freak accident. Players crash teh net every single shift.

This last injury Mcdaivd went stupidly hard into the boards, and I can guarantee Mgmt said, don't do that again.

Gotta agree with the clown. You add to the depth and players up front. For those that want to trade Sam and add one of the older, players with less points. Why not resign Sam and target one of those guys. Trade for the center...

Olo. Jack. Samson
Skinner. Trade. Toffoli/Hoffman/Dandov

you may have to work down the rw free agent list a little because those top guys may command too much money.

I’d like to see Sam at 7-7.5 Over 7 years.

Apparently this is what this team needs.

20 seconds in.

Mcdavid falls into the boards on another freak play, and this is considered effort.

My point is that the buzzwords you hear after a team loses in the playoffs like toughness, sandpaper, snarl are hogwash. It's easier to talk about and direct anger at irrationally rather than accept the fact that sometimes your team loses due to puck luck.
- Michael Ghofrani

Thank you for clarifying Michael.

Serious question. If puck luck is so determinative in the NHL, why spend all the time in the data?

It's all about edge isn't it? if you can connect the dots using data to give your team even a small advantage isn't it worth it? Put your team in the best position you can to take advantage of luck when it comes your way, or help weather the storm when it doesn't.

So the best teams, have the most luck. OR do they just have better, more talented players.

Luck balances out over a season, having really good players, doesnt.

Rather have Marchessault for 2 million cheaper than those 3 will be. Brings the same things as those other ones. Him and Skinner could be deadly together.

i should clarify (again, thats my bad) when i was referring to luck i was originally referring to the playoffs, especially when you get down to best of 3, or winner take all/overtime situations.

To your point, the luck averages out over the season, but the best teams are better at taking advantage of it more often than the mediocre or bad teams.

I'm obviously not going to flag you.

And I think you're smart enough to know that the 1st amendment applies to government retribution, not the code of conduct on a hockey blog
