Good points - I agree with them. It is an unknown how well Horny will be playing by then. He is sort of turning into an expensive specialist, so I could see that. I wouldn't be too upset about losing Blueger or Simon, but yeah, if we can kill two birds with one stone, it might make sense. - Hockey66
Crosby, Malkin, Guentzel, Zucker, Rust, McCann, Kahun, Tanev, Blueger, Simon. Have to leave 3 unprotected. They might have a few more forwards ready to step in, but I would hate to lose most of those guys. We'll see how it looks though. |

Feels like they've been mediocre for a while but banked a ton of points early. |

The first 7 you listed at this point in time would be my protected list. Hopefully after next season one of Poulin, Legare or Hallander will be good to go. Possible Poulin impresses next year. |

No info on which NHL’r he was traded for yet
No salary retained by the Kings on Toffoli ($4.6 M AAV) because there's an NHL player in the return package which makes the money work. The Kings are getting a pick, a prospect and NHL player plus another conditional pick if Toffoli re-signs with |

So far I have seen Shaller as the NHL'er going back and Tyler Madden as the prospect. The pick is conditional on resigning. |

The Athletic had him as their third best prospect. I would expect this to be a 2nd rounder with a conditional 1st on resigning. If not this is a lame ass trade for LA considering what others have gotten. |

The conditional is a 4th in 2022. So 2nd rounder, Shaller and Madden. Not bad for a rental, but I wonder if that was their best offer. EDIT if that would have been their best offer. |

Yea maybe it was. Idk I still don't see the Canucks getting through the central with this move. They could possibly get to that third round though. |

Yep, exactly. No one is taking Tanev at that point, IMO, so I think it comes down to Blueger and Simon. Not a huge deal as far as I'm concerned. |

By the way he talked about Murray after the game you’d say he’s like his son or big friend. He sure does love #30. |

Well, the Canucks are in about 18th draft position, so a fair bit better than the Pens. Maybe a 2nd and a 3rd would have got it done, but the prospect was a 3rd round pick, so maybe not. I have a feeling that JR wasn't too hot on him (or felt he couldn't compete with an offer or didn't like the rental aspect). Just as well, now he can turn his attention to 2LD. |

So much for Toffoli going cheap. Madden was rated higher than Addison in Pronman's midseason rankings, 40 v 52, so that's a real good prospect. Close to what we paid for Zucker really.
Nobody stands out in the Pacific though I still keep expecting more from Vegas, so maybe this helps get them in and win a round or two before facing a main contender. Seems like an overpay if they don't sign him though. |

There was talk that Jim and Sully didn't like the pace of his game and thought he might be a bit overwhelmed by the speed of our system. I still don't think D is worth trading for unless Dumo can't return. We will see. I think another wing would suffice. We have a lot of good utility guys, but someone who plays with speed and can shoot the puck is never a bad pick up. Craig Smith might be available and he plays the type of game we like. |
