Zucker is an all around better player by a solid margin imo.

I agree. I'm sure TB management got a grit boner for Coleman, though. He'll fit right in with them.

That would be wonderful. We probably would lose one of Blueger, Tanev or Hörnqvist..
- Barnaby36

As it sits now: Murray then Blueger goes.

Both are due new contracts before the draft (Murray this year, Blueger next) so money will dictate how this plays out. Quite frankly I would prefer losing Murray nothing and keeping Blueger.

Best case scenario would be keep pumping Simon as 1RW and Seattle takes him.

There are typically a lot of folks who come here and say, "he sucks" or "that guy sucks" or "he really sucks"... with JJ I don't know that I've ever seen such opposition to a player who plays not only every night, but mostly a large chunk of it on the first pair. Recognizing JJ's talent level is arguably 3rd line, I think it's obvious HCMS is spreading his talent around with his parings. And I think it's worked out pretty well.
LOL, someone wrote on here the other day about JJ: 'all he does is throw the puck across to Letang to get it up the ice...' which is just ludicrous. I think he's played solid in a role above his head, and I think he and 58 get a little stronger as a pair every game. And it seems they may have to keep doing that... in Sully I trust, certainly over anyone here.

"but no one wants him to fail...we support JJ...We want nothing but the best".....(crap)

I believe one of Murray and Jarry will be traded by then....or we could use a draft pick (or cash) to make them NOT to take one of the goalies.

One of the two will be traded this summer. Jim could easily swing a deal for a young RFA or even a low 2nd round pick for Jarry.

Because of what he’ll likely make he may be able to get a 1st for Jarry.

So I'm super late because.... well I'm just not on here as often, but can someone explain how the (frank) Coleman went for two 1sts?

Like... many years his type of player gets you a 2nd and a mid prospect and no one bats an eye. Did I miss something or is this a massive overpayment?

- Guile

They overpaid, though he is on pace for 30 and on a cheap deal. It's something they probably felt a need to do with their cap situation. 13 players at 75 M, Cirelli and most of their D need new deals, and every obvious salary dump has a full NTC unless some expire (capfriendly only says so much).

Basically they need to push in this year and a cheap deal to help next year. They're kind of screwed if nobody wants to leave.

One will likely be gone this summer. I know hockey is a "What have you done for me lately" business, but MM did backstop you to consecutive Cup wins just 2 seasons ago.

Our best move might be to offer them a high pick and it might take a 1st to take a bad contract, thus clearing up space and preserving depth.

I know I know that's why I think he's not as hungry as Jarry anymore. He'll command more dough for sure. Jarry is better at handling the puck and faster IMO. To me it's a no brainer to keep #35 and trade #30 for a 1st RP or 2nd RP and good prospect.

Even if you think JJ is ok, and possession people like myself and several others on this board won't, that's a spot where they have some good, cheap potential options in Riikola and POJ. If I were calling the shots, I'd move JJ and use that money to get someone who does the crease clearing, PK stuff he does (where I will give him credit) for the right side only with better possession numbers.

With Galchenyuk gone, it's mostly a possession team except JJ and Schultz, might as well go all in on a strength.

This. The amount of trust Sullivan has in Murray through all of this is pretty high. The organization would prefer to reward their guy that they won with. The only way I see the team moving on from Murray is if Jarry steals the show down the stretch, becomes the #1 for the playoffs and wins a cup.

Tojo I find Schultz a very smart hockey player. He can move the puck with ease and is a decent PP QB. Any chance he'd take a discount just to remain with us (say like $4M per for a couple years)? Not saying it would be the smarter move just wondering if he'd be willing to do this. For now, I think he's gone in the summer.

lol that's a lot of things you expect from Jarry. I hope we keep Jarry and DeSmith afterall.

I'm saying if he wants to supplant Murray as the franchise goalie that's likely what will have to happen.

Jarry's good. But there's good, and there's playoffs good. Matt Murray has shown he can be playoffs good. If Jarry can't handle the pressure, then what would you do?

It's possible he ends up in that range if there's not the market for him he expects similar to Gardiner. But RHDs that can run a PP are always in demand. So in theory I could see him wanting to circle back because he does like it here. But GMJR doesn't really like to wait out the market for bargains, he'll probably sign his target quickly.

Do you think Murray might come down on his rumored contract demands now that the team has leverage with Jarry?

It's hard to say, but I doubt it. Especially if Murray keeps playing well. I honestly believe Rutherford himself doesn't even know what direction he'll take.

I firmly believe one of these gets traded at the draft.

I feel like Jarry sticks around regardless. GMJR loves his goalie depth.

Murray is the unknown. He's definitely winning back his job ATM and if he has a strong playoff that can change the conversation. I could see trade, arbitration/QO for a year, or long-term deal. Depends how the season goes and maybe on if they can find a number they both can live with.

I'm not sure what his ask was. I think he is comparable to Gibson and Hellebuyck in ways and the cup boost puts him right around 7mill AAV. If he is asking for 8 or more I would ask for his preferred trade destination

Jarry did win a Memorial Cup with Edmonton in 2014. I know it is a jump to the NHL, but he did beat future NHLers.

I'm not convinced that Jarry has taken the number one spot from Murray. They are both playing well at the moment. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if Murray gets the nod come playoff time. This is a long way from over.
