I disagree. Fighting just doesn't happen that much to have that big of an impact. The point is that the league is ineffective in policing the league. When a player like Marchand cheap shots someone, he should have to answer for it rather than being able to skate away cowardly.
- MJL

Back when fighting was more frequent, the NHL was way dirtier, because the standards of what was acceptable were different.

The idea that fights prevent dirty play is like saying high taxes help the poor due to the trickle down effect. Fighting is for idiots. In light of CTE the fact anyone can even suggest it should be encouraged is frightening.

i agree with everything you said about hockey.......but to criticize the original Star Wars in one point, only to pump up the new Terminator (which was an abortion of a movie) in the next point is just awful.

your bashing one of the best all time movies, and praising one of the worst......for shame

- sensarmy_11

The new Terminator was not good, as a film, but as a Terminator Movie, it succeeded - it had everything: cool new terminator, bad ass chicks, Arnie, and 345 explosions.

The original Star Wars is obviously cool, but when Hans and Leia are on the screen together it is unwatchable.

Subzero is the greatest hockey player of all time. When he just shoots the dude into the net and...nothing happens.

"Hey, Killian! Here is Subzero! Now....plain zero!"

- jmatchett383

Yeah it's amazing. The lightbright guy is hilarious too. I just couldn't figure out the logic - a lady chose Sub Zero to be the hunter, meaning it was completely random that Arnold was in the hockey arena where there was a net and ice for him to skate on.

the only cool scene in the new terminator was when they were fighting in the big ass plane as it was crashing..........visually, that was pretty awesome.........the rest was just awful

as for star wars, I think that every scene leia was in was pretty horribly acted, as I think she was a terrible actress, but you can NEVER criticize Han, he's THE MAN!!

If you bashed me and were funny or creative I would like you, but you are terrible at at and it's embarrassing. Like, the key to a good joke is believability. Since I am so clearly smarter than you, a McDonald's joke doesn't really work.

There's so many avenues available to you - the hipster, the conceited liberal, the guy so good looking he intimidates everyone, the list is limitless.

I don't have any facts or statistical data to back it up but I would disagree overall. I think certain elements were dirtier such as what was permissible in a fight but overall it wasn't. In my opinion of course.

You can't help yourself but bring in an asinine and uninformed political viewpoint which I'll just ignore for any further comment.

Fighting still has a place in the sport and should not be completely removed. Nobody has stated that fighting should be encouraged. That reading comprehension issue you have is ongoing.

I hate to side with Tanner, but the NHL was much dirtier back then..........the only difference was that a lot of the "dirty play" wasn't against the rules (ie. head shots)

guys like pronger, stevens, domi, probert, etc, etc, etc would do poop on practically every shift that, if done today, would warrant 10 game suspensions.

now, if you consider "dirty play" only plays that go against the rules (whatever they happen to be at that time) then fine, there is probably as much dirty play now as there was then.....but......if you consider things like elbows to the head dirty, regardless of what the rules say, then hockey was WAAAAAYYYYYY dirtier back in the day.

You alluded to it but I think you're looking at it from the wrong perspective. Back then it was legal to hit a player in the head with a body check as long as you did it legally. Body checking is a part of regular play and isn't part of what I'm talking about. Stevens caught Lindros with a direct shoulder to head and knocked him out. Perfectly legal and not dirty then but a suspendable play today.

I disagree that it was way dirtier back then. There is far more stick work, cross checks, elbows today than back then.

ummmmmm, did you actually watch hockey back in the 80's or 70
s?

i'm genuinely asking, in the even that you're in your 20's or something...........there is literally no comparison to the amount of elbows and cross checks from now to then. there was SOOOOOOO much more of that back then, than there is now, that it's almost laughable to even try and compare.

We were having a reasonable conversation. Now you're assuming something. Know what they say about that. You're wrong in my opinion. A guy like Marchand would've had the pulp beat out of him back in the 70's and would never do the nonsense that he does now and gets away with.

literally, just find the video from one single flyers game from the 70's..........there were probably more elbows, cross checks, high sticks, etc, thrown by the flyers in that one arbitrary game that you find, than in an entire week of NHL games played today (by all teams combined).

i'm not assuming anything, which is why I asked. you're a flyers fan, or so your profile says.......did you grow up watching the broad street bullies? if you did, then there is no way you can say that hockey is dirtier today than it was back then. some of those guys would be friggin thrown in prison today if they pulled the same poop they did back then (obviously a tongue in cheek comment, exaggerated for effect)
