By this TDL maybe the Habs but most likely an offseason deal to a bottom feeder rebuilding & needing to reach the floor. Buried in the minors or bought out is more likely.

Because Toffoli is a proven NHL'er and the owner, management and players ALL want to make the playoffs now....now!! That's why. At some point you have to stop saying "next year", it's time to go for it and show the players you've assembled you believe in them and you're going to support them by whatever means possible.

It's risky but the cost wasn't huge if they don't make it or if Toffoli walks, a gamble worth taking and I bet each and every player in that room is pumped that management supports and believes in them enough to make another acquisition to help them reach the post season.

While I've wanted them to go for it next season, the opportunity they have in front of them with the weakness of the Pacific Division I think has put that moment of faith for management front and center. Its the right response to reward the players for their efforts

My initial reaction before the pieces were announced was that this was going to be an over-payment, but its manageable. Its hard not to get attached to a good prospect like Madden, but they converted a mid-round pick into higher value and sold which I cannot complain about - its just good business. I am also glad the condition of resigning didn't come with an absurd price tag, like upgrading the 2nd to a 1st, a 4th is again, manageable
