He has been looking for a top 6 forward all year. - Bettmanhatesus
The more Pearson worked out with Bo this season the more ex Cup linemate UFA to be Toffoli became the target. This was a plan long in the works and BB and Ferland issues pushed it further into play. |

There is an alternative to being cap compliant? - belcherbd
According to the people here I think so. I am not the one to ask.
I think you can only be cap compliant but what do I know. |

Losing a 2nd round pick and a depth prospect to make a run during the 50th anniversary really doesnt matter in the grand scheme of things. Whether TT resigns in Vancouver or not is a footnote given that the further compensation is simply a 4th round pick. Teams that are "going for it" often pay for rentals and Vancouver is not immune from this. There are only so many roster spots in the NHL at any given time and it's clear the Canucks are better with TT filing one.
As for Loui Eriksson: No Movement Clause (NMC)
No Movement means the player cannot be waived, assigned to minors, or traded without approval. This also means they cannot be exposed in an Expansion Draft and must be protected.
The fail safe in all of this is that IF Vancouver somehow chokes and misses the playoffs they will retain their 1st round pick in the next draft. |

You find ways to make it work, it's part of the job. There are at least 6 players on this team that won't be here in a year or 2. |

Another clueless post. Check your facts before you come in to a blog and try to act like the expert of everything. Loui does not have a NMC

Every player that “comes off the books” comes with a replacement cost. If the goal is to upgrade at each position, that comes with a cost. If you want to to upgrade Leivo, that will cost more than 1.5, not less. And it’s not 2 for 1, you also have to replace Ferland. They way you get better is by being able to add those ELC players (Like Madden) to your existing group of big $ guys. |

I think that they'll need the cap to go up 2M or more, let Stetcher walk have Ferland retire/LTIR, buyout Sutter and get at least 1 team friendly deal in order to sign Toffoli, Markstrom, Tanev, Virtanen and Gaudette.
Certainly possible but it will take some sharp pencil's. |

My .02, i like it.
I raised my eyebrows when i first saw the announcement and expected more outrage here today tho.
I thought the Canucks would not make playoffs this year, predicting they'd slump in the 2nd half of the season.
I think JB saw this coming too and made this move to add some juice while waiting for Boeser and Leivo to heal up.
Cautiously optimistic on our chances at this point.
I like this squad, but feel bad for nighthawk.
The lineup is set! |
