If they miss the playoffs Benning will look foolish and probably lose his job, if they get in and TT scores a few goals here and there, it looks ok. Hard to judge right now. - Pacificgem

Having a role and fitting in is just as important to these athletes. Its a pride thing. But on the money side it makes sense too, as said, after this summer's payment. He could get more of what is actually owned on a new contract or at least same on a show me deal. Other teams could use a bottom six LE for bottom six money not top 6 of course. - NuckUp
Name one team who would pay Eriksson more than league minimum for anything longer than 1 year.
Take your time
I’ll give you some help
No team would sign him, even for league minimum. |

Why don’t you and VHG start a new clique, you could call yourselves the “what if’s” and female dog about everything Benning - Makita
It’ll be interesting to see how and where he fits in, as I said, I don’t hate it, but I don’t love it either. Risky...but without risk there are no rewards, sometimes you’ve just gotta go for it. |

That’s all he’s done while in Vancouver. Sutter is the longest serving player he’s acquired by trade, yeah for Sutters balls! - 1970vintage

Anybody wonder maybe Madden let it be known he was never going to sign in Van? - manvanfan
That thought occured to me as well, either the org. feels stronger about Gaudette than Madden, or they had a feeling he wasn't interested in signing.
Edit: I see Rick D said explicitly on twitter that Madden intended to sign in Van. |

True. But the way I see it, we're in the thick of it now. There's no guarantees how next year goes. He should be making these kind of moves if his job is on the line. I don't think he gave up a boatload and he got a good player away from our competition.

In all honesty, they probably have a better shot this year than next. The pacific is so terrible, there is potentially an easy path to the conference finals. And there is a high likelihood they lose their starting goalie, #1 defensive defenseman and their newest top 6 winger. |

The price wasn’t huge if we’re honest, the risk lies in not making the playoffs and or him walking away, but much like the lottery, you can win if you don’t play. |

I believe there’s always pressure to win, especially when you’ve missed the playoffs four straight years. Gillis was re-signed to a five year deal and fired the following year, Torts was signed to a five year deal and fired the next year. I don’t think you understand the business side of the game...and a lot of other things about the game, but that’s a different thread - Pacificgem
They had a sh1t team when Benning took over. He had to tear it down and build it up.
Most people think Canucks are one of the more promising young teams . It is foolishness thinking Benning or Green get fired this year. |

Yup I agree with this, this is a definite move to improve the team, Schaller was expendable, a second is years out in development if it ever sees the NHL, Madden is a loss but also a few years out.
I also think Benning may have talked with his agent and has hopes he will sign long term.
Overall I like the deal, hoping he fits in quickly. |

Something that adds a bit to the trade on Vans side is that clearly the Kings were willing to trade Toffoli within the division so it's nice that Van gets him as opposed to anyone else. |

I think they’ve had enough of the building, it’s time to supplement the young core, which I have no issues with, personally I would’ve targeted someone with term though. If he signs a three year deal, it’s perfectly fine. The price wasn’t huge if they can sign him. |

Do you honestly think that 27 year old, first time NHL UFA, former 30 goal scorer Tyler Toffoli will sign a 3 year deal? Like Markstrom, this is probably his last chance to get a sweat heart deal to provide for his family long term. Canucks will need to go David Backes to get it done |

Craig Button

Hey
@Canucks
fans. I really like the addition of Toffoli. Adds more scoring. Takes focus off others & spreads offense deeper amongst forwards. He’s also a very good trigger man from the right side of ice on PP & that can open up options elsewhere. |
