Maybe because I see only four or at the most of them ever making the Canucks.

I think the reason I think it is so good is because I see 4 spots available over the next 5 years and 5 players today ready to step in.

I never for one minute thought Madden would be a Canucks and you can put Rathbone on that list too regardless of they hype.

- VANTEL

As I said yesterday, the Canucks probably have a better chance at making some noise this year than next. Salary cap crunch next season could see some key players gone unless they can find a way to get rid of a few guys. I’m not sure all the fill ins will be as good. So make hay or whatever. It will be an interesting week I’m sure.

So do I, solid pick up, and the guy gets to play with a young dynamic team. He just may want to play here.

But I can understand the armchair GM’s that worry about everything.

- Makita

I agree Mak. Lots of time for cap gymnastics before next season. Buyout Sven looks real if no taker & Troy is gone & maybe Rafferty is in. No matter what kids are ready to earn spots next season & the following year & spots to be opened up to compete for.

Maybe Ferland retires and we just use that money, plus a buyout/trade, to sign him...
- NewYorkNuck

There is more to Ferland’s situation that we are privy to. My guess is he will use the rest of this season to gauge if he can return or go on permanent LTIR til his contract ends.

Everyone says JB won't pull slick moves but this sure smells like Bring Brock back in the playoffs and use his LTIR with Schaller's departure enought for Toffoli and Dillon.

Nice take. 👍

Haven't you been going on about how important growing and developing players in Utica is? Are they not prospects?
- Marwood

Growing picks into prospects is essential. Then using those prospects as needed is the next step. We have some depth at center and Madden is not cracking the lineup in the near future. As well with a smaller frame, the Canucks need size. So turning some prospects into currency is also the goal of player development.

So do we have a cap problem next year
- carsonagenic

Nope. We play 9/6/2 forget using a 4th line.

Agreed, pick the prospects you like and trade for NHL talent with the ones that are on the fringe.

- VanHockeyGuy

Yup a 2020 50th overall or later that might play in 2022 at the earliest if ever will cost us the cup no doubt. Serve returned...

Using those prospects as needed is the poop. We still have Hogs, Pods, Lind, as forward prospects plus a host of others. I don't want to dip into this pool too often. But with Brock going down, and what we paid, Toffoli is a good pickup.

Madden showing potential very near Gaudette. I think with Vans Centers being 24-23-21 it was easier to give Madden away who is in a lesser league than Lind, Podz, Hogs for wingers.

Linus Karlsson is also playing against men in Sweden. Him and Madden are born a week apart.

I know Scott wheeler put Madden as Vans 3rd best prospect but I would have put him closer to 8th.

- manvanfan

Costmar may also have made Madden expendable.

I had Madden after Pod Hog Lind Rafferty and OJ .

I keep hearing some people like Cam Robinson saying Rafferty is passing OJ. I don't know if that is true but it is nice to hear.

- VANTEL

That is also not saying OJ has slid backwards but more like Rafferty has exceeded any expectation.

He could be, we’ll see. Jim is like a kid who got a box of chocolates for Christmas and ate the whole thing before the wrapping hit the ground.

What they gave up is OK. Just need to sign him and how. Where is Rosterhawk with some cap numbers already?
- carsonagenic

Too many moving parts. The offseason will clear up the muddy waters. Expect many roster cap changes then.

I don't think so. He has drafted well and looks to have built a devlopment pipeline that is producing assets with value. We are at a crossroad roster wise and cap wise. We are pushing for a division title and have injuries and weakness in our top 6. JB noticed and addressed this for a reaonable cost and risk IMO. Everyone female doged about Edmonton wasting McD and Dri entry level deals by not supporting them. JB is supporting his roster. Good on him.

For sure there will be. We might see Lind come up to replace Leivo as an example. However this does not obsolve you from YOUR Rosterhawk duties. Time to step up.

Name one team who would pay Eriksson more than league minimum for anything longer than 1 year.

Take your time

I’ll give you some help

No team would sign him, even for league minimum.

A team wanting the cap hit but actually pay less could acquire LE this offseason. A team like NJD comes to mind or Ottawa if need to reach the cap floor. Probably a sweetener to be added but that’s an option.

I think they’ve had enough of the building, it’s time to supplement the young core, which I have no issues with, personally I would’ve targeted someone with term though. If he signs a three year deal, it’s perfectly fine. The price wasn’t huge if they can sign him.
- Pacificgem

Term costs more to acquire. JTM?

That is not the scenario N4U proposed. He said Eriksson terminated his contract, presumably after refusing to report to Utica, and then signs a new deal.
