He’s a rental, Tanev is a rental, Markstrom is a rental. It’s ok to rent, but long term you end up paying more.

I think we just turned into a super team but I will confirm with Tanner first.

Anybody wonder maybe Madden let it be known he was never going to sign in Van?
- manvanfan

I don't think so, at least not yet. He still has 2 yrs left. Why would he show his cards already? I'm more concerned about Rathbone doing this.

We'll see on that bro.

Benning would not give up the picks if he thought it was a rental. He propbably had talks with the agent

So what is the issue, trading a second to get a proven top 6....you would rather a second round pick that may never play in the NHL, or are your concerns for Utica.

2nd for a rental?

Volume control off

I know everyone thinks Benning is a moron but a guy that loves his prospects and draft picks does not trade for a rental.

2nd also keeps him from going to any of the teams in the Pacific race.

Was talk about Madden wanting to turn pro last summer. Maybe Canucks see him 3 years in NCAA and 1 year in Utica like Gaudette.

I don’t hate the deal, but I don’t love it either. This is a huge risk, huge, which leads me to believe Benning’s under some pressure to make the playoffs. The rebuild was obviously over when they acquired Miller but he at least had term, they just gave up a lot for a rental player who scored 13 goals in 82 games last year.

5 on 5 he’s a play driver but his shot isn’t what it used to be, or he’s extremely unlucky, either way it’s a lot for a player that might not want to re-sign with the team. What if they miss the playoffs?

Odds are long of us not making it. So lets see what a reset on his game with a new team does for him. A 2nd and a prospect isn't a huge bill to pay for a 27 yr old top 6 player. We do need to resign him though. And IF he can return to form and be another Miller?
Worth the risk to me.

They’re probably the class of the Pacific, still doesn’t make me think they are bound for greatness. Everyone on the radio keeps saying Toffy is a scoring winger with grit and toughness, but he was playing for the kings, who are grit and toughness. Put him in an orca and he’ll be a wussy just like the rest of them.

Then Benning’s probably gone. I can’t imagine that’d break your heart.

Why don’t you and VHG start a new clique, you could call yourselves the “what if’s” and female dog about everything Benning

Why would Eriksson forego any salary owed to him?
- 1970vintage

Having a role and fitting in is just as important to these athletes. Its a pride thing. But on the money side it makes sense too, as said, after this summer's payment. He could get more of what is actually owned on a new contract or at least same on a show me deal. Other teams could use a bottom six LE for bottom six money not top 6 of course.

If they miss the playoffs Benning will look foolish and probably lose his job, if they get in and TT scores a few goals here and there, it looks ok. Hard to judge right now.

That’s all he’s done while in Vancouver. Sutter is the longest serving player he’s acquired by trade, yeah for Sutters balls!

I'd say this move solidifies his fate if the canucks fail to make the playoffs. If he makes it, hes good, if they fail, hes 100% gone.

I honestly laugh when I see comments like this. Burkie and Gillis have both said that stuff doesn't change their plan.

Aquilini has been on all year about how he likes the new Canucks and their direction. He extends Benning and the coaching staff to fire them?

I forget who was on the SN650 this week (an ex player) laughing how insane the thought of firing Green was.

This has been an extertaining year and the fans love the team as you can tell at the Sedins retirement ceremony so do you really believe Bennings job will come down to one month?
