I usually agree with most of your thoughts, Steve Rain.

Being in a position to add due to salary cap room is so over played. Even if we acquire some good players, this team does not want not has ever shown a high compete level but merely in spurts. Any board game and overall grit is only a brief glimpse

I realize Shaw is out. I admit there could be an additional physicality derived through trades. But not enough toughness would exist even after those moves. And I really question if Toews willingly plays hard physical brand each game through the end of the season

Watching other games and seeing the level of complete, the body pounding from checking and skirmishes.....that is playoff hockey and it is not in the blood of enough current Blackhawks.

Unfortunately I do not foresee a high return rate through trading. We do not want or will likely use mid level prospects in the years ahead. Take the draft choices or try a two for one type trade - we give a team for example two useable playoff depth pieces like Gus and Smith for ?

Stan would be smart to give Lehner a promise of a slight overpay but Lehner is not stupid. He can get that offer in the off season but maybe not much better. Many teams are not hurting in net. Quick and or others may be shipped as well.

The cost to draft NOW in a rebuild on fly or to trade for a very good goaltender is prohibitive. Even the time to develop a top rated goaltender is just too much. I do not know a drafted netminders- develoos to NHL stardom after three years pro - how long is this incremental rebuild in the fly.

I do not see anything which spells out that Delia or Laakinen could become top NHL goaltenders. They become descent NHL netminders- perhaps.

So offer Lehner an overpay - gamble. Just not too long in terms of years. Offer five years at how much? Not sure, maybe $7.25 Mill per year? Offer that both now and later if he is traded then hits the open market

Hope you are well. You still attending a bunch of games?

I just want them to trade who they can for what they can. If they stand pat that’s a sign of fear of loss of fan base and money. And that doesn’t help them get back to a championship caliber club.

He's better than Mrazek and signed for the same length.

Damning with faint praise. The idea was to increase the return while leaving the Canes in a better position to make a run.

i dont want either but i fit means a guy like Bean, I live with it.

I'm surprised to see so much Canes talk here. I moved to Charlotte 4 years ago and started paying attention to them right away. It's awesome to see how far they've come. Such a bright future ahead of them too.

Who is...right? Don't really disagree with anything you said, other than the part about experiencing the wrath of JJ first hand.

I used to be grateful for a place to hang out and chat with other Hawk fans until me and a few other guys got on the bad side of JJ for being friendly with a poster that he and some other people didn't care for.

As a result, bans ensued for me and a select few while others could post in similar manner without any reprisal.

That's a simplified version and I'm sure there is a chicken or egg argument from both sides, but whatever.

Respect your opinion but I appreciate the current guy (TC) for his writing style, commentary, ability to balance his Hawk fandom with objectivity and the fact that when he does decide to play referee here, he doesn't just side with the guy who happens to mirror his POV.

Other than the DC5 thing you're pretty golden.

- HawkintheD

Did you get banned?

The only one I recall is unnamed source and I’m sure he’s resurfaced under a new name.

Outside of that I miss snapitupstairs and savvyone. I know the latter loved nick leddy and I didn’t always agree with both but their opinions were great reading.

Banning tactics are asinine unless you nuclear on a poster.

I used to drink with Sam fels in between periods and we would discuss this thread. Never got that chance to meet his brother who tragically passed way too soon.

EB, no more “one goal” marketing campaign, next year it will be “catch us if you can”. I also respect your posts, but oh man, DC5 over Beatles, I don’t know about that one.

Edmundson and TVR are both going to be UFA, I doubt the canes re-sign both, so Bean will get his chance. Besides, Hawks (or SB) wouldn't be looking for a Dman. consider what we have now;

Keith, Seabs (not going to be traded out)
Maatta, DeHaan, Murphy (these are SBs "pets", I doubt he trades them)
Boqvist, Mitchell, Beaudin, Gilbert (young guys that shouldn't be traded, maybe Gilbert)
Seeler, Koko

IF Lehner HAS to be traded to Canes, realisticly, Canes will be shipping one of Reimer/Mrazek back, and probably a 2nd rounder (conditional to 1st rounder). Give them Gus if they ask

- squishy24

I am in agreement with all points. I was not pinning for Gardner,: just curious how he feels about Gardner value on a deep defense. I thought TVR was descent but apparently he is not very good. Hamilton injury created issue of defense - the blueline crew, that is - being.good enough. That plus subpar goaltendimg.will be enough to hold Carolina from significant playoff advancement.

Yes i agree but would carolina give up that for lehner. 1st 2nd and bean maybe it depends how much management pressure is on the gm.

I got three months once and numerous multiple day bans courtesy of Fife (Eli). Think Elbows got a year. Source got three years and Ogi 4 for nothing more than saying "Hello" to Eli every/every other morning.

Even the HB Mods agreed that was silly and rescinded his ban.

No one was going nuclear on anyone...just dumb arguments for the most part.

For you and Bingo, with the population growth in the Charlotte area (Both city proper and just across the boarder in South Carolina, do you think the NHL missed an opportunity by not moving the Canes to Charlotte?

I'm not sure if it was a missed opportunity, but I do think it makes more sense to have the team in Charlotte since it's pretty much right on the border of SC and has a larger population. Plus, most of the people I meet around Charlotte are from New York so there is definitely interest in the sport here even though it's a southern market.

I've met waaaaaay more transplants than anyone born and raised here.

I think they'd be reluctant to give up a 1st unless they can get him signed.

Lehner $3 mil retained, Maatta, Gustafsson $600 retained, and Dylan Sikura

He set up a couple of Rockford games for us - nice guy, very nice wife - he lived somewhere between Chicago and Rockford - was going to school....

He did just disappear - always hoped nothing bad happened to him

For some reason, I'm having a deja vu moment with visions of last year. Go on a run, fizzle out and somehow end up with the #3 pick again.

Mark Lazerus‏Verified account @MarkLazerus · 1h1 hour ago

Jeremy Colliton wraps up practice by telling the team they "absolutely can go on a run here and get a bunch of wins."

- Chunk

Wrong wrong wrong. The Hawks fizzle and somehow end up with the #1 pic to replicate the #3 in 2006 and #1 in 2007. Focus man, focus.

Here are my 5 Points that would bring the Hawks back to relevancy ( Cup Hunt) :

1. . Rocky needs to hire a knowledgeable "President of Hockey Operation".
( this would take McD out of any hockey related issues)

2. Make Eddie Olczyk our new G.M. ( I think he is ready to step up and produce).

3. Our North American scouting staff needs to be retooled.

4. It is imperative that the President of Hockey Operations brings in a new coach.
( under no condition should McD have any say in the selection of a new coach)

5. Seabrooks needs to be convinced by management that his body has taken
enough abuse and go on permanent sick bay. We definitely need his cap space.

Hawks keep losing - and are likely out of the playoffs - but meanwhile, other teams are losing, too - tonight (in the West Side Story game), the Sharks beat the Jets. Vegas is coming on, Nashville is showing a bit, Minnesota - well, what is going on up there?

Games above NHL-.5P0:

Vegas - +7 in the top 3
Flames - +7 first WC
Preds - +5
Arizona - +4
Jets - +4
Wild - +4
Hawks - +1

Blown opportunity - no one to blame but the Hawks themselves.

Eddie O. Is not qualified. A little bit of coaching and he watches lots of games. We do not want a novice. Let him try GM at some other level pro or Junior. Bringing in Eddie O is analagous to the not ready for prime time NHL coaching gig handed off to Colliton
