I think you don't understand hockey and what great passing skills Thornton still has.
Even if he only plays 8-10mins a night, with half of that on the PP - he could make the difference between a win and a loss in a playoffs series.
(would be poetic for Joe Thornton to help the Leafs win in a playoffs series vs the Bruins ) - MaximusAurelius
While I agree with your last point, I think the Leafs already have a Spezza to fill that void. and he is much better at this point
Looking at fancy stats...Kerfoot looks better to me |
|

exactly...
now what is Dreger going to spew about... I don't think there's a single other team in the NHL that has upcoming RFAs... only the Leafs.
its almost like there will be no need for Dreger at all (we can only hope) - BorjeFan4Ever
Dreger still has dermott to fear monger leaf nation with. |

That's what we have Spezza for, who still has 10x the legs Thornton has. Another brain dead off to the side idea this board is bound to hear about endlessly as an obvious fix that the rest of the world is to stupid to understand. |

Spezza is playing well, but Thornton on the PP is something special. |

2 goal and 22 assist in 56 games Joe Thornton? That one? The soon to be 41 year old? |

Spezza is better than Thornton. And our PP is #1. We don't need him. |

I recommend you start watching short track skating - if speedy skating is all you care for. |

Spezza is clearly having a excellent season in his role and his cap hit is fantastic, |

Agreed, the opposition's penalty killers will be able to hold onto the puck for several more seconds if Thornton is trying to get the puck back.. |

I'm not convinced any team will offer anything for Thornton right now. |

I recommend you stop being such an arrogant female genitalia, acting like you're the only one who understands anything about hockey. Maybe then your endlessly stupid ideas wouldn't be immediately written off just because they came from you. |

The guy has a 2mln caphit - which Leafs can easily add.
Thornton would be a great add for Leafs for the playoffs - I don't think there is anyone better available to give Leafs the additional +.
(Matthews - Tavares - Marner - Thornton - Rielly PP1 would be awesome) |

the objective is for the puck to move fast - not necessarily the players.
saying Joe Thornton wouldn't be a nice add for the Leafs is ignorant at best. |

He's almost 41 and looks finished. Are you aware of the player you are talking about in 2020?
How did you think Marleau looked with less of a broken down body last year? |

I’m baffled how you think that Thornton would be the best use of our limited cap space.
Why the frank would you take him over a defenceman who can defend? |

Thornton is not finished.
Additional plus for you of adding him, would be that Matthews would get an additional minute of iceteam each game - since Thornton would play 12-15mins on this Leafs team. |

Replace Nylander and Barrie with Thornton and Rielly? How does that make our PP better?
Ok, I'll bite...
Thornton is not a threat to shoot the puck.. Ever, like, he won't shoot the puck unless the net is empty.. Rielly, as good as he is, his soft wrist shots from the point are predictable and low percentage.
I don't see how Joe Thornton will be of any value to the Leafs PP or at 5v5.
