isn't kerfoot on the second line.... - bobbyisno1
All healthy I thought he was on the third. some combination of Matthews, Tavares, Marner, Hyman, Nylander, and Johnsson were the first 2 lines at one point. But I know Johnsson was demoted at some point too. I can't really keep track. and haven't paid as much attention this year. |

We cant get everyone for 1.25 million. It's just silly to complain about not having enough of one type of player when the leafs have them already.
Itll never be perfect. Leafs will never have every guy outperforming his contract. - Aaron_85
I believe we are making this whole one player(e.g. Kerfoot) versus another (e.g. Engvall)... its not so much about whether one is significantly better in one category of play or another... let's assume in this case they are very similar.
Assumptions
1) Kerfoot and Engvall would/will contribute more of less the same offensively
2) Engvall probably a better option on the defensive side of the puck
3) Keefe's line-up would suggest that he(Keefe) feels that Engvall is a better center than Kerfoot.
what Dubas should care about...
4) Engvall has a 2M less CAP hit than Kerfoot for the next two years
5) Kerfoot is a tradeable commodity - which would free up 2M$ against the CAP over his logical replacement.
why do you trade Kerfoot? not because he's bad - he isn't
you consider trading him because he can replaced without much loss by an asset you already have under contract

that's pretty much a long version of what I was saying when I said "if he keeps this up for the rest of the season you consider trading Kerfoot for a draft pick return and some cap relief".
Kerfoot is just fine, but he could also become expendable and easily replaceable, for a team with a glut of good forwards.
Smart asset management. Trade him for a nice little return. I don't know what that return would be, but the draft picks or prospects are a bonus, because of the space anyway. |

I would expect that his shoot won't be as good for quite a long time... but great to see back in full equipment and trying to shoot

Johnsson got concussed/injured in late November I believe - and in that absence a combination of Kerfoot Tavares and Nylander happened eventually.

My favourite part about playing the Bruins yet again, is going to be when Nylander smashes his face into Chara's crosscheck and the refs call quincies. Ha ha, stupid NHL has no idea what the Leafs are going to get away with. |

they traded away Barrie because they have Makar + Girard doing the same thing as Barrie.
So if you do a comparison, you should do Kadri + one of those vs. Barrie + Kerfoot imo. - MaximusAurelius

When Pronger retired, the NHL anointed Chara as the defenceman free to crosscheck.
FFS, even Pronger laughs at how ludicrous it is.
One other thing I find funny: have you ever seen an NHL player be called for two crosschecks or two slashes?
Once the ref’s arm goes up, you can do whatever the hell you want, because in the history of the game there has never been a “two minutes for cross checking plus an additional two minutes for cross checking” call.
Ever. |
