Great job signing Engvall by the way. Leafs need a couple more guys like him. Big body, can skate, can shoot, plays any forward position, kills penalties. Perfect fit. Makes it so much easier to trade guys like Kerfoot and Johnsson for help on D.

42 goals in 37 games. Everyone does that. He’s not special.
- Steven_Seagull

Yeah, but he hasn't scored 40 in the nhl yet, so he's crap and never will.

People on here are seriously comparing Robertson and Connor Brown?

Yeah, he did both in the OHL and NHL. 50-60 goals a year in the OHL, 40 in the NHL. Let me know when Strome scores 40 in the NHL.

Connor Brown. Another guy who scored in the OHL and not so much in the NHL.

Robertson has a long, long, long way to go still.

- JohnFergusonJr

Ah so goals scored matter more than points. So ovechkin greater than mcdavid. You know because of goals. Sorry but you are wrong...strome finished 2nd to mcdavid in points one year and led his team the next. Both times ahead of debrincat. For chirst sakes omce in your (frank)ing life accept being wrong.
Like this is why people hate you. Not because you preach some sort of truth, but because you come across as a guy who thinks he knows everything, a guy who thinks hes the smartest guy in the room.

“For all we know, Robertson could...”

That’s all it took to trigger UG. Can’t even be remotely optimistic around him.

- Steven_Seagull

that's not "quite" true..

you can be optimistic about the Leafs acquiring Doughty... even though he doesn't want to leave LA, doesn't want to play in Toronto and is slowing down, while the league around him gets younger and faster...

what could possibly go wrong?

Meh, he's a dime a dozen player. Underwhelming junior career. Hasn't scored 40g in the nhl. Feel despair.

UG admitting he's wrong is the second sign of the apocalypse.
Right after the 1st sign, the Leafs being up 3 games to 0 in the Stanley cup finals.

Guaranteed, given how some people here are, when they saw Brown scored 45 goals and 128 points in the OHL, they thought he was a great prospect and would be a great player for the Leafs. Those people won't admit it but it happened.

It's a steep curve from the OHL to the AHL and then to the NHL. A prospect going from the OHL to the NHL at 19 is extremely rare.

Cam Atkinson, another small, highly skilled player, was drafted in 2008. He didn't score 20 in the NHL until 2013/2014. That's 5 years from draft day to NHL "success". It took him 10 years to become a 40 goal scorer. That's a long haul.

A lot of these guys simply don't make the impact people hope they will make and the rare times when they do, it takes a lot longer than just a year.

This was a lot of words for nothing accurate. DeBrincat has proven he's the better NHLer so far. So when you're retroactively looking at OHL numbers trying to say Strome carried DeBrincat, you're wrong. It turns out DeBrincat ended up being the better NHLer (with more goals AND points), which is what matters in the end.

Its accurate for the point i was trying to make...that debrincat had strome and mcdavid...robertson didnt. And that yes, strome put up bigger numbers than debrincat in juniors and to say otherwise is to ignore the stats. You want to twist it intp something else just because you are a narcissistic jackass who cant ever admit hes wrong...not my problem. Even now you cant even admit to being wrong...rather you choose to change what you see was the key point...even though it had nothing to do with my point.

Your point was a flimsy one, trying to say Strome led the team in points so therefore he was carrying DeBrincat. The one year he played with McDavid, considering he's an NHL MVP, you might have a point but you can't say Strome carried DeBrincat. DeBrincat was the one who has performed better in the NHL. The year Brown played with McDavid, Brown scored more points. Who was carrying who that year? By your logic it was Brown carrying McDavid. If you're so hung up on admitting wrongness, you can start here instead of the needless insults.

Remember when the OHL preseason just started and some of us were commenting that it was pretty neat to see Robertson score a whole whack of goals? That he could be a good 2nd round pick?

And then some clown said it was only preseason and it didn't matter. See what he does during the regular season.

And now that he's scoring at a historic clip, it still doesn't matter?

Robertson may or may not amount to anything but....

he was drafted in the 2nd round ...so like Debrincat his skill is recognized in spite of his size. Brown and Atkinson were late round picks ....gambles.

And, important difference ....Debrincat is a late bday. He basically played his 3 jr years as 17,18 and 19. Robertson is about as young as you can get within a draft class. He was barely 16,17 and now 18.
