At a critical point in the season - with their competition unable to break out from the pack - the Hawks score 10 goals in 6 games and go 1-3-2=4 out of 12 points.

Smith's buy out would be $1.083,333 for 2 years. Not bad.
BUT, he's apparently so good that he's on the first PP Unit now - I was hoping my eyes were deceiving me but I checked the stats.

He's there to protect against short handed goals!

Yes I understand .one way to get him off the top PP . But will not be able to deal him for anything, if that was even possible

They can't deal him. No one wants him at his cap hit. The Hawks can buy him out and save 2M in cap space.

The real playing in the NHL starts in February and what was suspected is now obvious - this team just isn't good enough.

But they played a good game tonight; goalie stoned them.

Well looks like that might be 3 strikes were out on this road trip .If we want a miracle finish better call Gerard Gallant .J.C. just don't seem ready for the show ,that challenge was week .Even thought I think Crawford told him to go for it . But the buck or puck stops with him . I think it was a close call ,but of late the HAWKS have not been getting any calls . And his player usage is all over the map ..

Saul Goodman?

I trust him to pack some strength on the players before the goof they currently have doing that job.

A SO win and 2 loser points.

They’ve given up 2-3-2-3-4-2=16 (not including ENG) in the 6 games - 4 of the 5 losses were OT or one goal (again, not counting ENG) - not awful.

The frustrating part is all of the seven teams they’re competing with are struggling too - only Minny is above NHL-.500 over their last 10 games.

The playoffs have been on their stick - and they’ve turned it over.

This mess is on Stan- he put together a team that can’t compete. It’s very clear.

Hiring JC is also on Bowman - also an obvious mistake.

Selling at the deadline proves this - buying at the deadline would be a total mistake.

It’s a do over with SB & JC shown the door.

I’ll be surprised if either are here by June.

The Hawks played great last night and lost. This doesn’t come near balancing the early season points the Hawks stole behind our own tending. The Hawks are who we thought they were a team not making the playoffs. The inevitable was just on delay.

Now the “goalie wins” and “the calls” are starting to even out and the witching hour on the season is here.

The Hawks defense not good enough, depth scoring not good enough, bad regression from Strome and Cat leaves us here.

There are positives: Kane is Kane, Toews has had another strong year, excellent goalies, not to mention the rise of Kubilik, who looks to have serious upside. Kids like Boqvist and Dach continue to impress.

There are good signs but not enough. I just hope when the depth is replenished and the youngsters are legit players, Kane and Toews are not winding down.

The Hawks simply have not been good enough organizationally to remain relevant like the Penguins, who have used a similar model as the Hawks, protect the core, build around and try to stay relevant. The Pens have just done a better job in scouting, drafting, trades, cap management and development. The Pens / Hawks juxtaposition illuminates Bowmans failure as GM. While he has done good things he has been a mediocre at best GM while the Penguins are legitimately looking at a serious Cup run. Bowman is soon to be the architect of a 3-peat of playoff misses. Coaches and players do not get immunity, nor should he.

Colliton’s contract ends next year, he will be given to at least the beginning of next year. Bowman isn’t going anywhere.

I agree. I think Bowman has immunity. Players and coaches will be shown the door but the mastermind of the Hawks demise will remain in the sandbox.

The guy making the final call on any changes is Rocky. He probably doesn't even know 5 players on the team. In the end their will be zero changes at the top. Hopefully they can move up in the lottery again and pick an impact player.

markstrom last night was not what the hawks needed...

he played great: his positioning was really good, controlled rebounds to kill plays and hawks could not come up with scrum pucks for second chances

to get a 49 shot shutout the hawks helped: not enough high quality chances, little net presence, and mostly perimeter shot selection...

1st period was killer...i had suspicion it was going to be one of those games

oh by the way 4-41 in the last 45 pp's

He certainly did. He stood in the crease while the puck was still in play. The puck basically went right under him.
- Chunk

He can be in the crease if the puck is in the crease, he NEVER touched the goalie. Plus, Horvat was in there too impeding Saad's ability to leave the crease.

The real standings.

_____________ GP PTS PTS/G
Av's__________55 72 1.309 1st Cen
Blues_________56 73 1.304 2nd Cen
Stars_________ 56 69 1.232 3rd Cen
Canucks______58 69 1.190 1st Pac
Oilers________ 56 66 1.179 2nd Pac
Flames_______58 64 1.103 3rd Pac/WC (tie)
Knights_______58 64 1.103 3rd Pac/WC (tie)

Jets __________58 63 1.086 WC
Yotes________ 59 64 1.085
Preds________ 55 59 1.073

Hawks_______ 57 58 1.018
Ducks________56 53 0.946
Sharks________56 52 0.929
Kings_________58 45 0.7776

Based on these results you will need a minimum of 1.103 pts per game. So 82 games x 1.103 = 91 pts. The Hawks have 25 games left and have to get 33 points. 15W- 7L – 3 OTL. They have to win or tie in regulation 18 of the of their last 25 games.

Sell wisely Stan.

I hope so.....then NO REASON NOT to FIRE Bowman and Colliton. They have both FAILED and it's a disgrace. Who's more to blame isn't important. Launch them both after 4 consecutive years of let downs. Any GREAT businessman should always have a succession plan. Let's see what's in Rocky's future for his great organization !!

Don't see the RedWings or Kings turning around quickly and they've been bad longer. Sports are not like business in turnarounds, too many variables and uncontrollables. Everyone has admitted it's beating a dead horse, Stan like it or not has made less mistakes than other GM's. Turnaround won't truly begin until core is gone.
