It's doesn't depend really. He wouldn't retire. Nobody benefits from that. He's not going to give up 3M when he can do nothing but cash the check. - MJL
Datsyuk retired with $5.5M left on his contract to go play in Russia, so he was actually healthy enough to keep playing. I'm not sure what his KHL salary was, but I'm pretty sure it was a far cry from $5.5M. So it was a choice, not forced.
That's the only one I can think of, and it wasn't injury-related (Hossa, Pronger, Savard, Zetterberg, Franzen, etc.).
So probably no reason to. Just saying if he did, not that he will. |

You are talking about two different things. Saying they could add Hoffman is not the same as saying they should. It is just something the Flyer could do.
- xShoot4WarAmpsx
Yesterday you were advocating for such a move.
Again it is all hypothetical because we are just guessing what Hoffman would even sign for. Im not for or against adding Hoffman, it all depends on the cost present and future. No one is going to say no to Hoffman if the cost is Ghost and re-signs for 5 mill for 1-2 years - xShoot4WarAmpsx
Please explain to me why Hoffman, who is 30 with pending UFA leverage will sign a 1-2 year deal for no raise off of the amount of his current deal? |

Again, if they miss the playoffs by a point or two, hey it's just one game. Tell me how that's the incorrect perspective in a playoff race that is as tight as it is? - MJL
We arent going to agree.
You want to see that Devil's loss as some great indicator of a problem. If they don't make the playoffs it's because they didn't do enough of the right things to make the playoffs. Why does it come down to that one game if they don't make it by 1 point vs say last night or any other multiple games they lost? |

No thats my point I didnt Advocate it. I argued we had the room get him and that it was an option. Whether you believe the cap works out is irrelevant. I did not say they should or should. Like I said above it depends on the situation. A Ghost for Hoffman swap doesnt hinder anyone IMO. Hoffman would just be a LW option where Lindblom was. However if he is going to want 7 mill a year then I'd pass.
As to why he would take it, I dont know. I am not Mike Hoffman. Why did Labanc take such a small contract extension with SJ? He could have gotten more than 1 mill. No one knows. Maybe he likes the build of the team and thinks the team has a good shot at the cup. Huberdeau picked us to win the cup this year.
For the sake of the argument we will pretend I did advocate it, what does it matter? If I advocated it yesterday or not. Opinions are not set in stone, they change over time with additional information. People minds do change. I was not open to trading for Kapanen at one point because I believed Lindblom would return. It was made clear that I was way too optimistic about his chances of returning, therefore my opinion on that changed. |

I don't know guys I think last night is worse. Getting blown out sucks, but over the course of an 82 game season, every team has games like that
Last night when you fought back to try and eak a point out in a playoff race so tight and to lose it with under 40 ticks to play: that eats at you.
Hopefully this motivates them to come out in Florida up 3-0 in the first. |

Wit Barzal near the goal line, Elliott has to respect the cross ice pass and hug the post. AS wide open as the passing lane was, Barzal was able to make a crisp pass. Elliott gets up and pushes out to the top of the crease. With the partial screen on a point shot, he does what any NHL goaltender would. Gets in a butterfly to take away low. Pulock is able to shoot a lazer high into the top corner of the net. The shot is not saveable in my opinion. Perfect shot with a lot of pace on it. - MJL
I'm glad someone finally pointed this out. As much as the goal stung based on timing, and the defensive effort was lacking by the 5 skaters on the ice, that shot would be difficult to stop at any time by any goalie. It was just about a perfect shot. |

I wouldn't be shocked if they did. They've rebounded well of late, but that's a tough road trip through FLA. |

I think it's reasonable that if they miss the playoffs by a few points to look at games like the Devils game and last nights game as reasons why they missed the playoffs due to not showing up for entire winnable games or for the start of a game with an awful first period. It's also reasonable to think that with how tight the playoff race is with multiple teams bunched together that lost points are crucial and certainly aren't just one game. Again, it's looking at why they lose rather than just bunching all losses together as being equal. |

That's the point I was making. To blame six years of slow starts by an ever changing roster on the only 3 guys who have been here the whole time. These guys are highly paid professionals. Your job is to be prepared and play well for 60 minutes. It is each man's responsibility to be ready. - jaws1955
Totally agree! I think this tired narrative from a lot of people about the Captain not leading and the core group never being ready to start games is just sour grapes for decades of failing to win the Cup. |

Nobody has said never ready. They weren't ready for the Devils and Isles game recently in the last two weeks.

1. It wouldn't work cap wise.
2. why?
3. What would Minny have to gain by doing this deal?

Gostisbehere's value is probably at the lowest it's been since he's been in the NHL. They'd be trading him for pennies on the dollar at this point. |

I guess another possibility is trading him for another player looking for a change of scenery. Such as Sam Bennett. Not saying i'd make that trade just an example. |

it's even more bothersome that NBCSN held onto him for a lengthy suspension and dropped him. If you're going to fire him, do it right away instead of leaving the guy in purgatory. |

Couldn't agree more. Roenick plays up the fact he's a zany kind of guy. What he said was mostly harmless. Absurd he was fired. |

so if Boston finishes 1-3 pts behind TB for the division, which of the 2 redwing games or the game against the Flyers that they didnt give their best effort in the first, which will they choose as the reason? |
