Yeah, not sure what Pitlick was doing prior to the blocked pass, why he had to come diving back into the play.
Myers got turnstiled by Barzal. - wolfhounds
Barzal was just making people look dumb out there. |

Plenty of blame to go around on that shift; the whole 5-man unit had a bad shift. And Elliott, way back in his net, didn't give himself much chance to get a piece of Pulock's scorcher of a shot.
Such is hockey, though. Let's say that Konecny's tip off the inside of the post goes into the net instead. Then the Flyers wouldn't have had to burn their timeout or pull Elliott. They probably don't get the Couturier goal -- unless, back on their heels after seeing the game already tied at 3-3, the Isles give up a similar one at 5-on-5 -- but the flip side is that the rest of regulation would have been easier to manage personnel wise to get the game to OT.
Woulda, coulda, shoulda.... the result was what it was. |

Who is currently this "core" that I keep hearing about?
The Flyers are one on the youngest teams with mostly home grown talent.
How many players have been here for more than 5 years. G, Jake and Coots. Three players. What do you want to do with the core? Coots is your best player, G has an NMC. That leaves Jake. Just say get rid of Jake and that fixes it. This myth of the endless CORE is just that. 90% of the team is new. - jaws1955
The core is Giroux, Voracek, Couturier and (now in his 4th NHL season) Provorov.

It's not a new issue, as you say. I don't know what the cause of it is. It's not so much at puck drop, but in things spiraling downward once the first adversity hits. - bmeltzer
I thought they came out fine.,....with energy then as you said it spiraled quickly and it took the period to get their bearings back |

That was my point, Bill. More than 6 years is three guys. 17 other guys take the ice at the start of the game. ( In turn, of course). To say that the 3 man remaining core has been the problem and continues to be the problem is ludicrous. Hockey is the ultimate team game. As much as I would like the team to never come out slow, it happens. My point is there is and has been a tremendous influx of players in those years. Can't pin slow starts on 3 players. If those 3 don't start every game great, the other 9 forwards have to step up. |

No doubt. Impressive they came back to tie it late. Real rough to watch the game end without collecting a point. |

This game without a point and the 1-0 game against Tampa hurt. Losing to Pittsburgh in OT last game was a tough swing. Pick up the extra point and gain on the Pens instead of dropping back another point. I'm afraid the team, league and division are all like this. Up and down. Caps lost twice. |

One good (or bad) thing is that they have 2 games coming up against Columbus. Not looking past the 2 games before that, but those 2 games are pretty important. |

Jake is definitely the issue. Just like ROR was the problem with Buffalo. |

On this day last year the Flyers were 26-24-7
Take solace in the improvement that is 31-19-7 - xShoot4WarAmpsx
Carter Hart and a healthy Brian Elliot can explain the 5 win improvement

I'd say its Giroux and Jake, and would add Nisky since acquiring him. They do call him the team dad afterall. He had a good quote after the game |

Wit Barzal near the goal line, Elliott has to respect the cross ice pass and hug the post. AS wide open as the passing lane was, Barzal was able to make a crisp pass. Elliott gets up and pushes out to the top of the crease. With the partial screen on a point shot, he does what any NHL goaltender would. Gets in a butterfly to take away low. Pulock is able to shoot a lazer high into the top corner of the net. The shot is not saveable in my opinion. Perfect shot with a lot of pace on it.

While we may literally look like playoff bubble team when looking at standings, our division is just absurd this year. If only we were in the Pacific, then we'd be a division contender
But when/if you make the playoffs you don't need to be a division contender. - arichardson22
That is not true though. If they were in the pacific the schedule would be different resulting in different results. Comparing apples and whisky barrels |

Myers had the puck and took a bad wide angle shot from deep in the zone missing the net. Sanheim tried to pinch on the opposite wall and the puck got past him leaving a 2 on 1 with only Laughton back defending. - MJL

I think it's pretty clear and logical to say that we lost the game because Ghost Farabee was back in the lineup.
We were on a good roll with Ghost Farabee out of lineup, and the lines seemed to be rolling and we didn't seem to miss him. But sure enough, Ghost Farabee returns to the lineup, we get down a bunch of goals because of poor defensive zone play and end up losing. |

Nothing. You let your young players continue to grow. Farabee, Frost, Konecny Sanheim, Myers, Hart will all continue to improve their games. Healthy NoPa will also improve the team. - xShoot4WarAmpsx
Hextall played the nothing card. He's now unemployed.
I guess you're hoping for a quantum leap in progress/growth to offset the decline of G,JVR,Jake and Ghost. Best case scenario, it's a wash. And a healthy NoPa is like a healthy Neuvirth.
Fletcher will get punched in the mouth if he tries to sell Comcast on hope with no change this summer.

Hextall had moves he could do without jeopardizing the team, Fletcher doesnt. If we add someone we gotta subtract someone. Who are you moving out of the lineup to make room for an addition plus have cap space? This isnt the same as Hextal not grabbing guys because he expects AHL players to make the jump. They young players here are on the rosters. They need time to develop. Pushing them out of the lineup is counter productive. |
