The Flyers would be foolish to blow up to the cap to add a player like Hoffman. Same for a player like Anthanisiou. Promote the young players and roll with it. Frost and Farabee should make bigger impacts next season. Like Fletcher said, I doubt Farabee has 4 goals this time next year. - MJL

PDO is a waste of time and it's singling out one stat. You may not be concerned about the drop off but you should be in my opinion. I think you're drastically underestimating what it would cost to acquire him. You didn't address what it would cost to sign him to a new deal. He's a 25 year old player who had a 30 goal season. Tanking teams typically don't trade good young players. - MJL
I said if we had the cap space I would like to trade for him. The fact that we are already up to the cap makes me not want to trade for him since I'm concerned about new contracts for internal players in the coming years. But i think if we had the space he would be a good addition. I do not want to complicate our cap situation further by trading him, hence my first words being "I wish we had the cap space"
I think they could go short term with him for something like 2 years at 3.5 mm per. He could get to UFA that way and by that time we will have more prospects ready.
A tanking team would trade someone like him because by the time they are ready to compete he would be a UFA and either walk or take up a substantial part of their cap. Plus, as I mentioned he has had some bad contract negotiations with Detroit and may not want to stay so they want to get an asset for him.
Maybe I am underestimating what it takes to get him. My point is that I think he would be a good fit for the Flyers and my opinion of that hasn't changed even with your classic bullying and bad faith arguments. |

Mike Richards turns 35 today. He hasn't played a single professional game in four years. Even at age 31, he was a shell of what he once was. Even if he's in a good space in his personal life nowadays and in good physical shape relative to the average 35-year-old, he most certainly isn't doing NHL-like game-ready skating and conditioning let alone keeping up his skills. - bmeltzer
The best thing we can take from your answer Bill is that he is still here.
Sadly I bet everyone has probably lost someone either to death or fully into when it comes to addiction so to read that he doesn't seem to have gone that route is great. |

Even if the Flyers had ample cap space, he's not a player they should be trading for. The only bad faith argument made was singling out PDO. It's not bullying bringing up all the factors involved which led to you suggesting they could get him for a 3rd or a 4th. The Flyers shouldn't try to buy their way there. |

I haven't been paying much attention but is Keifer Bellows not having a great year? I sort of wanted to pick him but IIRC we went with Konecny. Super glad we got TK tho - how often has Bellows been healthy scratched? |

They wouldnt have to blow up the cap. Looking to the future we were thinking about raises to Lindblom and NoPa. As most of you pointed out Lindblom is unlikely to return to hockey at all, NoPa is not gonna get a raise, he probably wont play this year either.
Next year we have
Braun off the books at 3.8 mill,
Ghost is obviously the guy in this hypothetical trade which frees up 4.5 mill
Pitlick is off the books at 1 mill
Elliott off the books at 2 mill.
Plus any cap increase
If you can re-sign Hoffman at a reasonable amount, I think he can work without blowing up the cap. |

he's been in the AHL basically all year. Only was just recently called up. Has 3 pts in 3 games
TK was the 2015 draft. We could have had Bellows over Rubstov. I very much wanted Bellows and was very angry when we traded down and then the Isles got him |

I knew someone was going to bring up Richards again this deadline.
I'd sooner give Jagr a call. Hell, probably even Hartnell lol. Richards is beyond cooked and has been for years now. Don't understand the continued obsession with him at all. |

Very big game tonight. Important two points. Saw that Farabee is in for Frost. Farabee was on such a roll before his illness, it’s good they get him back in.
Let’s go Flyers! |

Arich suggested it , /sarc, earlier and I asked just a general question about his last time playing which Bill replied to.
I hope no one was actually serious about Richards. |

Re: Hoffman
He was traded twice to land with the Panthers after a really, really uncomfortable, highly questionable situation with his former team and his girlfriend. Then almost immediately and ever since his name has been in the rumor mill. Why?
Why would a up and coming team like the Panthers want to trade a productive goal scorer?
Flyers have a tight knit group, any acquisition better be really thoughtful vetted and that goes for the offseason too.

Yes but you dont need a 3rd pair Dman at 3.8 mill and Ghost is a 4.5 7th Dman right now in terms of play. Im sure we can get a back up goalie at half the price of Elliott and NAK could take Pitlick's spot on the roster next season.
Giroux-Couturier-Voracek
Hoffman-Hayes-Konecny
JVR-NoPa-Farabee
Raffl-Laughton-NAK
Even then we do still have Frost but he could probably use another year in the AHL. |

This has already been explained. Florida is looking to upgrade their D. They are strong on the wing and teams have called about Hoffman. This is partially why I dont believe Ghost is a fit. They want to bolster their D and help Bobrovsky out. Ghost isnt that kind of Dman.
People said the same thing about Dougie Hamilton personality issues, being moved from BOS to CGY and then to CAR and the guy was having a career year until he got hurt. His issues with OTT are in the past. It was an issue with his wife and EK Wife. Hoffman was just the guy stuck in the middle. |

Someone defensively sound that can chip in a bit offensively. Ghost is not defensively sound. Ghost is not the Dman that is going to help the team's GAA go down. Bob is getting lit up way too much. Part of it is on him but you saw the game last night. They could use an upgrade on D. |
