I was pushing for Pulock, personally.
- jmatchett383

I remember. You and a few others can legitimately claim that to be true

It's unfortunate that Morin's career thus far has shaken out how it has. Sometimes, guys just don't make it

And 2013, Morin was a moster reach, but Hagg turned out to fill the exact same role.

- Tomahawk

Despite his weaknesses, I still like Hagg. I know what the numbers say but I still think he is a useful NHL player

I saw Luke Schenn playing meaningful, third-period minutes last night for the Tampa Bay Lightning. There's room for guys like that in the league as long as you actually utilize them correctly and don't have too many similar players in your gameday roster

It was really interesting watching Luke Schenn last night. He's turned himself into the most basic defenseman possible who can survive in the league: as soon as he gets the puck, if he is under pressure, it's off the glass and out, or around the back of the net on a reversal. If he isn't under pressure, he takes no more than two strides, maybe three, before it's off his stick and to his partner or a forward

He did the same thing over and over and over

I give him credit. He figured out how to survive

I don't know man... I'm the one that was on here pushing for the Flyers to move Ghost at last year's deadline, and again this past summer. Preeetttty sure you were one of the regulars on here that essentially ran me off the board by telling me how stupid of an idea that was. "You don't trade a guy when his value is at it's lowest". That's what I was told then. Well, it appears it has indeed gotten lower.

I keep seeing posts now to move him as part of a deal to improve the team for the playoff push. IMO the Flyers are not sniffing any type of return that substantially improves this team with Ghost as the centerpiece of a package. I still don't think he's worthless, but I don't think he's bringing back anything that even marginally improves this year's team. Might as well hold on to him for depth at this point.

- Big_E_88

No, I’ve always been in favor of trading Ghost for Kadri. Again, Hayes is playing well but I never wanted to give Hayes that contract. Ghost is weak defensively and pretty inconsistent. I would have loved swopping Ghost for Kadri straight up.

Just about everyone including you would have lost their mind if the Flyers didnt take NoPa 2nd in that draft.

I know, hindsight is a powerful thing.

As for Morin I am pretty sure that everyone thought he was a stretch where they took him and to this point he hasn't delivered even on being a stretch due to injury.

- opeth_pa

more than one mock draft (Craig Button's for sure) had the Flyers taking Morin where they did.

This team really shouldn't be doing much if NP has a realistic shot at coming back.
- Tomahawk

I would like a fourth line center but for the most part, you might be right.

Hagg's doing OK this year. Not a lot of goals being scored against when he's on the ice. Slight uptick in raw possession and possession quality. Really can't complain.

If NP can't come back, then you'd maybe look at some bottom-six C options. But then again, I'd feel pretty good about just letting Frost and Bunny run with it.

This is Montreal's decade of 1st rounders. Only the bolded are still with the team.

2010 - Jarred Tinordi
2011 - Nathan Beaulieu
2012 - Alex Galchenyuk
2013 - Michael McCarron
2014 - Nikita Scherbak
2015 - Noah Juulsen (always injured)
2016 - Mikhail Sergachev
2017 - Ryan Poehling (2 points in 27 games!!!)
2018 - Jesperi Kotkaniemi (8 points in 36 games!!!)
2019 - Cole Caufield

- Feanor

Man. They've had their struggles. They're in Oilers territory for terrible picks.

Damn , did they really?

I guess they saw raw physical , in the aggressive sense, talent and thought they could develop that.

Kadri actually just got hurt. I saw he's going to be out for at least a few weeks. Apparent leg injury.

As I remember, we were also looking to rebuild a depleted D corps, and I am sure we looked at balance on the back end where we needed a physical shutdown defenseman.

That was the plan as I remember it anyways. Always a crapshoot, but overall I have been happy with our draft record of late.

Plus they should expect Frost and Farabee to both have a bigger impact next season. Unless they're moving someone like JVR or adding someone cheap without giving up important future assets, stand pat.

It's pretty wild...Next year we have the potential to ice 4 forward lines that majority are home grown talent, minus Jakes and Hayes. Assuming Pitlick isn't brought back, which I'd be ok if we did bring back.

G-Couts-TK
Farabee-*Hayes*- *Jake*
Frost-Patrick-JVR
Laughton-Bunnaman-Raffl

4th line really could be variation of other prospects we drafted

EDIT: Shortly after posting I realized this is also the case this year

I need another coffee

At that time, the league was just emerging from the outdated mentality that size + some mobility + grit = shutdown defender.

After Luke Schenn, Oleksiak, Reinhart, Gudbranson, Siemens, etc, most teams have wised up. The only dman in that mold that I can recall going in the 1st-round since 2013 has been Logan Stanley... who has yet to play an NHL game. Maybe K'Andre Miller fits that description too.

They traded Galchenyuk for Domi, which is a fair trade.

Sergachev was traded for Drouin, which again I think benefited both teams. Sucks that Drouin is injured however but not much they could do about that.

Poehling, Kotkaniemi, and Caulfield are all good prospects. Still very young to call them busts.

They also have Suzuki and Evans who are looking to be nice players

The pick of Morin was about right considering where the pick was. The fans were grieving the loss of Pronger (me too) and the thought was Morin could develop into that type of player. He was beset by injury after injury after a pretty good junior career and it looks doubtful that he'll live up to his billing. As far as Patrick, I still believe if he can conquer his physical problem he's a can't miss kind of guy. I'm very relieved to see he's been practicing and traveling with the team. Hexy made a bunch of good to great picks. Hart hopefully the best

So the Caps lost back-to-back games to the lowly Flyers and 3rd place Islanders.

Surely, this must mean their fanbase should be worried about them missing the playoffs, based on Flyers' fans mentality, no?
