Nice move by Pittsburgh. They will be able to recoup a prospect or pick in the off season by moving Murray or Jarry.
Pittsburgh definitely maximizing their years with Crosby and Malkin. |

Zucker is signed to a very reasonable deal. I have to think that played a huge role in Rutherford wanting him. Adding him to our Top 6 for the next few years is fantastic.
Marino made it a hell of a lot easier to trade Addison. - SuperHenderson13
And Petterson, I think this is a prototype ''good trade'' for both sides, Minny gets a blue chip prospect and a 1st this year (because I doubt the Pens miss the playoffs), and you guys gear up for a cup run . Also Zucker is in his prime, it's not as if he's on the bad side of 30. |

From everything I've read this draft isn't shaping up to be a very deep draft, so if he was going to give up a 1st this was definitely the year to do it. |

please site your sources....literally every hockey scout and pundit on the planet is saying this is the DEEPEST draft in decades...if not ever. 2nd round picks are likely going to pan out as legit NHL'ers....

Literally every hockey fake scout who writes says it's the deepest draft every year. This is the 7th year in a row of a very deep draft. Your argument is invalid and trash. |

Reading the pens blog and comments it sounds like they are all justifying this deal. And maybe this deal alone is close but the fact they gave up assets less than a year ago for Galy makes it look even worse for them.
From Pit
Phil Kessel ,a fourth-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft, Dane Birks.
Galy, Addison, 1st round pick
To Pit
Zucker
Maybe this trade works
Great for them. But that’s an awful lot out for basically replacing Kessel with Zucke |

What on earth have you read?
Don't get me wrong. I don't mind the trade (a huge fan of Zucker), but I can't fathom where you would've found this particular take. |

Zuck is a very, very good 5 on 5 guy two way guy. The quality of the Pens 5 on 5 play had already risen drastically due to Phil's absence and the addition of Tanev and Kahun. So they are going to be even better 5 on 5.
Now the PP? That's suffered because of Phils absence, no doubt.
Galch was a major net negative on the ice and only getting 3 to 5 mins game...and even in those very limited mins was making a lousy impact on the on ice product. Harming the team. He was also a 4.9 mill cap hit and UFA. Losing Galch is addition by subtraction to the on ice product.
To me they basically gave up a 1st (have you seen the success rate on these after the top 5?) and a good (not elite) D prospect, whos a year or two away from the NHL, for a proven speedy good D playing top 6 winger signed for 3 more seasons after this one.
Good trade for both teams but the Pens got the by far best current piece and have him for years to come. |

Well that's one way to look at it. For whatever reason, Kessel had to go. Looks like the wrong move, but it must not have been for his on ice play. Galchenyuk was a bad gamble, I agree with that but Zucker is a good player and should fit well. It should have been Kessel for Zucker in the first place though. He was reported to be willing to go to Minni, wasn't he?

Every draft can be deep when you hit on a late round pick....
The pens have a 3rd round 2 time cup winning goalie in Murray, a 2nd round goalie who is statistically near the top of the league this year in Jarry, a 40 goal scorer former 3rd round pick in Guentzel.
They traded a 6th for Schultz and a 7th for Marino who are both key pieces to the defense corps.
And I can't even tell you who the last Pens first round pick was to be successful in the NHL.... Maatta?... and that's a very loose definition of successful.
So as a Pens fan, if Zucker, helps us survive until Guentzel can get back in the 2nd or 3rd round of the playoffs, it was well worth the cost. |

But he's also going to be there the next 3 seasons with a healthy Guentzel as well. Their forward depth will be excellent for a few more years.

No he flexed his NTC (or NMC, can never get those right) and denied the trade to Minni... |

ohh OK, well what can you do then? I think it's great for Pittsburgh. Everyone knows what their window is, so try and stack up the cups while you have those guys. |

Exactly...that first round pick, if it even made NHL, would most likely be years away and Addison, isnt a NHL lock either, though I think theres a better chance he is than isnt...but where? top pair, top 4, bottom pair or 7th d-man? who knows and that probably wont be known for a while yet either. The next 2 or 3 years looking pretty promising again for the Pens because of some of GMJR's moves. |
