Wow those guys must be bums, please trade them to Detroit immediately for Abdelkader and Glendening. Those guys are all heart and veteran leadership.

I think we might need to throw in another million in salary to make the cap work out for the Sabres, too, so take your pick of Erne or Bowey.

Media will almost always show favoritism to whoever is willing to stand in front of a mic and give them quotes they can use to fill their empty and meaningless postgame reports.

That's why we keep reading stories every summer about how Abdelkader needs to "bounce back this season" even though his numbers have been deplorable since 20-frickin-16 and and he's scored a grand total of 17 even strength goals in his last 267 games played. Also why they'll keep pumping his tires ("leadership in the room is invaluable!") and act like as long as he throws a bunch of hits and "plays with some energy" he's contributing something actually meaningful to the team.

Pumping the tires = keeping the trade value above sea level.

But if the team trades Abdelkader, who will the beat writers get their meaningless quotes from?

In all seriousness, guy has three more full years to go at a cap hit north of $4 million and it's been at least half a decade since he could play hockey above an "AHL second liner" level.

Even if the Wings ate 50% of the cap hit, there's no way you could pump enough air into those tires to get them to sea level. The tire would explode before it left the sea floor.

That's what bugs me the most about the Detroit media. They'll give guys like Abdelkader, Nielsen, Filppula, Howard, Daley, Green free passes for stinking the joint up each game. But then they'll throw guys like Mantha, AA, Mrazek, Cholowski, Zadina, Rasmussen, Svechnikov under the bus and blame them for each loss.

When Howard wins it's because he was the best player. When they lose it was his teammates hanging him out to dry. Bernier has played well this season despite playing behind one of the worst teams in the Cap era. But they never mention it. Or how awful Howard has played.

Then you have Blashill who always wants to pretend as if the previous game never happened. "Let's move onto the next game." Can anyone tell me exactly what his"process" is? Process of losing? How many catch phrases can he rip off from Babcock? Those Tony Robbins tapes need to be replaced.

It's bad enough watching this Red Wings team embarrass themselves each game. But it's made worse listening to the slappy Red Wings media sugar coat their performance. Mickey Redmond and Chris Osgood are company shills and are paid liars.

No Mick, the Red Wings didn't lose because of bad bounces, no puck luck or playing 3 in 4 nights. They lose because they stink. The fluff pieces from sellouts HSJ, Khan and Kulfan are embarrassing. They can't tell the truth for fear of losing dressing room access.

Holland would control the media and sell his narrative via his press puppets. I'd hoped after he left they'd been more honest. Because Yzerman isn't going to waste time doing that. But it's still the same BS fluff pieces trying to make this team look better than it is.

Celebrating moral victories is what the team does now. We only lost by a goal so let's brag about it. They gave up an empty net goal so really it was a one goal loss. They were tired from playing the night before so they had no chance of winning. They're missing Dekeyser so they can't win. Mantha was injured. Excuses, excuses and more excuses...

It says a lot about this Detroit Red Wings season that Jonathan Bernier is both:

(A) A 31-year-old goaltender who, this year included, has been not much better or worse than league average his entire career, and

(B) Unambiguously and by a wide margin the Red Wings' MVP so far this year.

We would embrace "league average" at the 'tender spot wholeheartedly. Would be a huge improvement.

Edit: this does not imply at all that goalie play is even top 3 of Sabres worst problems right now.

I try not to put too much stock into goaltender W/L records because they're so context-dependent and flukey, but I present the following for comment and amusement:

Detroit's 82-game point pace in Bernier's decisions this season: 69 (31-44-7)

Detroit's 82-game point pace in Howard's decisions this season: 21 (7-68-7)

There is zero passion and heart in how they play, aside from Eichel. ZERO leadership. Does that partially fall on Eichel, their Captain ? Maybe so. Rumor has it that when they were getting sodomized by the Av’s the other night and down 5-1, Brandon Montour and Sam Reinhart were chuckling It up on the bench. Leaders (or better yet Winners) don’t allow that to happen. No one stepped up.

I think aside from an obvious talent discrepancy between good teams and the Sabres they sorely lack in accountability and veteran leadership.

Leafs dealt for Jack Campbell it looks like.

They did. I don’t think he’s the answer to their issue. Just my opinion

It beats listening to Abdelkader after the latest loss telling everyone what the Wings did or didn't and need to do. Like he'd know. Sponging off Datsyuk to get a ridiculous contract extension and mailing it in ever since. He's an assistant Captain? Disgraceful. He doesn't even belong in the NHL. I don't care what he thinks. He has zero credibility. Why does the media put a mike in his face? Ridiculous!

My favorite ever moment back that up is from Shane Doan. He was trashing Abby and Abby replied, “I have 20 goals this year” Doan replied, you’re on a line with Pav and Z, you should have 40

Abby’s play is so bad. I don’t mind the media sticking up for Larkin or Bert, but that is just embarassing

I remember that. I thought Doan told Abdelkader he should be ashamed of himself. Abdelkader has been stealing money from this team for too long. He should be bought out. Same with Nielsen. I realize it's 2 big warm sandwiches for Yzerman to eat but these 2 need to not be in Detroit next season.

I really like Doan. He hurt himself dodging a hit on Howard, good guy. Wish he’d gone to a contender and been a little selfish at the end

I liked Doan up until he went all crybaby in that playoff series vs Detroit.

Man, it depends on your quisine. Believe it or not, there are some amazing delis (bread basket, stage deli), some really good BBQ (slows BBQ), I’m attaching a readout of the current 10 best in Detroit. Andiamo gets a lot of rave reviews too.
