Kovy was the biggest fa they’ve signed and arguably one of the best fa ever signed by any team - shvingter88
Yeah he was a UFA but he played with the team prior. When was the last time they made a splash on a UFA they didn't have play for them the year prior? NJ just isn't a destination spot for UFAs. |

I will however say I feel it in my gut Coleman will Parise us. From Texas like his wife. Grew up a Stars fan. He has future Dallas Star written all over him. |

Maybe, but it won't be an issue until next year. The GM will get a feel on if guys are interested in signing or not and then sign or trade them. |

We did have the inside track, completely overpaid....and it still did not work out for us. So again I would say FA does not work well for NJ. |

Do Bobby Carpenter, Brian Rafalski, and Dainus Zubrus count? Scott Stevens was technically compensation and refused to sign at first. |

Big difference in value between term and expiring contract in value received. Just saying. |

So Friedman posted this:
23. In addition to any possible rental moves, New Jersey is willing to consider “hockey trades,” too. |

Why not at this point. We need a second round pick this year though. |

So full blow it up dream list here
Vats and Coleman to Dallas for Tufte, sekera and a first with a conditional 3rd if they make the scf it becomes next years 1st.
Wood to Calgary for Bennett and a first with intentions of sending him to the minors or buying out
Palms to Pitt for Galchenyuk, Poulin and a 1st
Simmonds to Boston for a 4th
Greene to nyi for a 3rd - shvingter88
Would want more from dallas if we're giving up both vats and coleman.
Don't think Calgary does the 2nd deal.
Rest I'm fine with. |

Instead of signing Vets like Green and Zajac to long term contracts with minimal offensive contribution we can keep Vets like Coleman and Palmieri that can do it all. These are the guys you try to keep. There's a long list of other bums to drop before trading them for late first round picks unlikely to match their contributions. - devilspep
Because no one wants the poop players. There’s no point in moving someone like subban because we will never get the value we gave up. |

Overpaid? Jesus if he were still on that contract and didn’t ruin his career by playing in Russia we would be laughing about the value of it. |

marco rossi is up to 5, just behind Drysdale, dont tell shvingter88. - cu45161
We're probably guaranteed to finish anywhere from 1-6. Whoever we draft at those positions looks like they will be a good player. |
