I don't. But then again, I'm not the one asking. It's part of the negotiations. A handful of teams offer their 2nd. You tell them, other teams also offered a 2nd, so make it a first and he's yours today.

I can't recall a team being successful in developping young talent in a loosing envrionnment. I really believe that Romanov would develop better paired with a vet like Petry instead of the great #77 Brett the great Kulak...couldn't care less between 26th and 29th it just about developping properly. I thought everybody learned from Edmonton.

Unless you get a Sidney Crosby and Malkin back to back
Or if you get a Toews and Kane, Stamkos and Hedman.

The Blues best pick was a 4th
The Bruins picked Seguin and Kessel but traded both.

We had Galchenyuk - poopty draft
We got KK and Caulfied. How many early first picks do we need?

Yup they're not too bad either

Plus, you don't really know how picks in the past 4-5 years will end up so "in the last 10 years" is a little misleading.

If a team offers a 1st rounder for Kovalchuck, Bergy must take a stance and insist on a 3rd!!!

15 is mid, not early.... but at least we have Chicago's 3rd next year, better than a 1st!

Good, not great. It definitely helps when half your points came when Ovi is a winger.

You need to surround your kids with good vets, and let them grow their game. You don't need X numbers of top 5 or top 10 picks. Montreal has been mightily struggling in that department, so yeah would be wise to look at the successful team and just reproduce the same damn formula. Now, if someone is willing to grossly overpay for Petry or Tatar...but Domi is still the guy to go IMO.

St. Louis is a good comparison. Montreal is trying to build their team in the way St. Louis did. but instead of building methodically, Montreal is building haphazardly. and instead of drafting good players, Montreal is not drafting good players.

but other than that it's the same blueprint.

I don't mind either way.

Target the right prospect or draft the right guy.... as long as you get a good player.

well, technically it can't be a "buried gem" if it's in the 1st round, right...? lol

St Louis' draft history is not great either actually.... most players were acquired through trades

Their top 3 scorers came from trades? (Although Perron was originally drafter by them)

A 20-21 year old D is much closer to the NHL than an 18 year old one, right?
