I’ll Jump in here and throw my two cents into the ring. The major issue I see with the pp is everyone is playing the perimeter. There’s zero net presence and for the few seconds there is it’s not getting to the net. When we scored in the last minute to tie the other night against Vancouver there were players on either side of the net below the hash marks looking for a rebound looking to tap in. Amazing how it worked. They don’t use having the extra player to their advantage to simplify what I’m saying. I get that was 6 on 5 but the point remains the same.

Also, their puck movement is predictable, slow, and all around terrible and having Barzal sitting above the circle passing to the point men is not working. He’s not in position to ever work it down low. Having your most talented players prime role is to pretty much solely feed the point men is to me beyond stupid. They seem super reluctant to change anything it’s consistent repetition of something that’s not working expecting it to suddenly click. It’s like Gomez never left.

Puck and players need to be moving and quick passes for me separates a goos PP from the shat ones. Barzal standing on the half wall stops the flow every time in my opinion. He has great skill and passes the puck great but holy shat on the PP he doesn't shoot when he should and for me slows the whole thing down. His puck entrances are great but after that he makes me pull my hair out of my head.

Lee is needed for net front presence.

Yeah, but Bellows scores most of his goals within 10 feet of the goal, no?

Sure Bellows can play the soft side ( RT ).

He can play there on either the first or Second PP unit.

Kid looks like Lee lite. Fair few net front goals in that montage.

This team as a whole does not shoot enough. Maybe Gomez was not a good PP coach but a new coach has not made a big difference.

Agreed but I think it’s also how he’s being utilized. Change it up it’s not working but they won’t they’ll do the same (frank)ing thing tonight. Super frustrating.

He's always looking for that opt in front. Lee battling will create some loose pucks Bellows can pounce on.

Pretty much all of them were low-slot or closer to the net. There was one from way out and one from the high-slot and pretty much everything else was around the crease. He's definitely built for that type of game.

Regardless of where he’s put 5v5, I think he should get PP time in some capacity. He certainly can’t hurt its effectiveness.

100%, gotta do something because it isn't working. I would even take Barzal off the 1st unit so they don't over pass to him all the time looking for the pretty play.

Regardless of his play tonight, wouldnt Bellows at least see about 5-10 games with club to get a better idea of moving forward with him? Hope team doesnt just play him to appease and then either scratch or send down afterwards. I feel he deserves more of a look like MDC has gotten.

“We want barzal to shoot more.”

Ok so why are you putting him somewhere he’s almost never going to be able to shoot? Makes zero sense to me.

He doesn't shoot. Thats my point. Take him off the first PP unit. Every time he gets the puck movement stops. He never shoots even if the shot is there on a cross ice feed or when ever. When I said they pass it to him its not to shoot they look to him to make the pretty pass.

I have no problem having him on the half wall where they play him it gives him options to pass the puck down low, to the point and cross ice and god forbid shoot. For me he just stops the flow every time he gets the puck. I'll also add everyone else sits and watches him instead of moving and creating a lane. Frustrating as (frank) !

I think you have to see how he plays. If he sucks ass then no. There's no appeasing players. If you deserve to play you will, ask Moose Knuckle. We are in a PO spot battle and you play the players you think give you the best chance to win, not to make someone feel good. Participation Trophies need not apply.

I haven't watched BPort games in a while, so I haven't seen Bellows since he started going on this tear. But, for what it's worth, back when he couldn't buy a goal, one thing that I always noticed was he had some grit to his game. So...some players are invisible if they're not scoring, but Bellows was always willing to mix it up in front and along the boards and you'd know he was in the game even though the points weren't there.

I know that's not the Best News Ever for a team that already has plenty of grit to spare and needs goals, but I'm sure it's a reason why he's getting a look beyond just the offense. I like to think that he was working on the physical side of the game, finally wrapped his head around that, and now the offense is starting to come back for him. I guess we'll see tonight how it pays off.
