Sure, teams have different rankings. But not a single team gets it right 100 percent of the time.

That's because drafting requires a lot of educated guesswork and luck. Perfectly projecting how an 18-year-old is going to perform over the long term in a much more challenging and evolving environment is not possible.

The mistake is saying that Benning deserves 100 percent of the credit for somehow knowing what Hughes was going to develop into. That's BS. He didn't know. He was making educated guesses like the rest of us. His just happened to pan out. If he, you, or anyone else had all the answers beforehand on every prospect your team would win 70 games every year.

Congrats on correctly predicting that Hughes would be the better player all the way back in 2018. Just don't make the mistake of believing that just because your personal predication happened to be correct, it's because you knew it all along.

We drafted Hughes in the mock draft the Rangers blogger hosts. That of course was with Zadina already being taken. Zadina can still be a 35-40 goal guy and that’s more valuable than Hughes.

I agree with the caveat that Hughes to this point has been the better of the two. It would be hard, I think, to argue otherwise.

Zadina however still has time and potential to catch up and pass him.

You can be sarcastic and whine all you like. It doesn't change anything. Holland drafting Zadina over Hughes was complete failure for the Red Wings. I certainly wasn't the only one saying how good Quinn Hughes was. Why should I know better than Holland or the Red Wings scouts? They're paid alot of money to get it right, right? Especially when it comes to drafting 6th overall.

Sure, the draft is unpredictable. But when high end talent like Hughes is staring you in the face you need to take it. The most glaring need for the Red Wings was and still is defense. Passing on Chychrun to get Cholowski was bad but at least Holland got Hronek with that Extra pick.

I believe Holland was scared of using a high pick on a defenseman because he struck out so badly with Smith and Kindl. But Hughes was the obvious choice here. I saw the same rankings you did. It was a different order each day it seemed.

Benning didn't know? Are you sure? I didn't see him drafting Dobson, Bouchard or Boqvist. There's nothing we can do about it now. I believe Zadina will be a good scoring winger. But I'm not going to pretend this wasn't a massive failure for the Red Wings. Missing out on Quinn Hughes set this Franchise back bigtime.

How? Hughes will likely be a #1 Norris trophy winning defenseman logging 20 minutes a night keeping the puck away from the other teams and driving offense. 60,70, 80 points a season perhaps? You're projecting what Zadina will do. He hasn't done it yet. Hughes is only tapping into his potential and he's impacting the Canucks in a huge way this season. Hughes projection is much closer than the one you have for Zadina.
