The replacement for Gus, we will now get a pick(s)for Gus. - Angotti
Or the replacement for Maatta, or K4. But I think more likely they just send Gilbert back to the Hogs. |

Tough to trade a 1st for a pending UFA, especially with two other goalies still signed for next season.
I'd give up a 1st if they can extend him, for sure. - BINGO!
It's also tough to win a cup when Mrazek is your goalie
But feel free to hang on the the first....someone would pay it if the Hawks decide to trade Lehner or Crawford if they feel they are close to winning but need a goaltender |

you wouldn't take a 2nd and a conditional 1st for a pending UFA goaltender? I mean, you kinda need those picks... - BINGO!
I think Hawk fans are expecting way too much for a rental goalie, even a young one having a great year. Carolina's window is not closing this year. Carolina is trending up. Carolina can sign him in the off season and give up nothing.
Now if they get to talk contract before the trade and they can sign him that is different. |

We'll be coming back with virtually the same roster next year. Can just keep the picks and take a run at Lehner in the offseason again.
Lines up better to compete next season anyway. Aho will be 23 and entering his prime, Svechnkov will be turning 20, Necas 21, Hamilton will be back from injury, Marleau's cap hit will be off the books, etc. etc. |

“NHL .500” sounds like the way we grade little kids in school today....can’t hurt Johnny’s feelings so let’s make something up that makes him feel good! If you don’t win a game you’ve lost it; ignoring OT or SO losses in the won/loss average is just plain millennial! |

Last night’s game helped me understand why I dislike the Bears. They could have traded down and had Mahomes.....this was as dumb a trade as anything anyone things StanBo messed up. |

CHI claims Nick Seeler.
My instant take: Seeler is 26 with 99 NHL games under his belt. Assuming CHI views him as a better 7th D option as Gilbert.
Oh and he's actually cheaper than Gilbert with a cap hit of $725k. |

I thought Saturday’s game was pretty exciting. The Hawks came out stronger than I expected. It was a shame they couldn’t hang on the the lead (or regain it in the third) and had to settle for the victory with Arizona getting the loser point
The biggest surprise of the game for me was the move Toews made to get the first goal in the SO. So used to seeing him skate straight ahead and shoot for the five hole. His move Saturday was very Kane-like. He looked really comfortable coming in with speed, slowing and deking and getting the goalie all out of sorts for a virtually open net goal. Hope he keeps this kind of performance up. |

I’m not the hockey expert but just armchair general manager, what we’ve seen in the past here at trade deadline as we always are the ones giving up extra, now we have a valuable asset so I am just merely speaking in terms of, how bad do you guys need this goalie? I understand he will be a free agent but it’s called strike while the iron is hot Or just simply say no and hang up the phone if your price is not going to be met. This is right on the fence here a lot can change in the next two weeks so, as a fan we’re just gonna have fun with it for now. |

If Chicago were looking to trade with Florida (seems to be an off and on rumor) I would try to see if Q wants a reunion with a couple former Hawks. Something like Saad and Crow (50% retained) for Montembeault, Tippett, and Weegar.
Just thoughts of trades that could benefit both teams. Monte is a young and decent backup, Tippett has a scoring touch, and Weegar is a good bottom 4 dman |

I'm not sure I envy him, but I certainly don't feel sorry for him.
Besides being in the same position as every other GM of a "bubble team", he is running an original-6 franchise in the best hockey league in the world.
Time for him to prove he deserves that responsibility.... - StLBravesFan

Debrincat, Strome, Dach, Kubalik, Boqvist...this is their young core. Meaningful games matter for these guys now and down the road. If the Hawks are in it by the end of the month, then do not move either goalie unless you can get a first round pick back from a team for one of them. IF the Hawks get into the playoffs, their goalie tandem is outstanding. If they get hot, who knows what could happen.
My question for the board is this...IF the Hawks could get a top 6 forward or a legit D-man (either situation with term left on their deal), would you move a first round pick to acquire one? - frafra

I'd give up both 2nds and make one a conditional 1st. Becomes a 1st round pick if the Canes a) advance to the cup finals or b) sign Lehner to an extension. - BINGO!
It becomes a 1st if the Canes advance to the conference final and it is the higher of the 2 first or signs an extension. |

So what's the scoop on Nick Seeler? I see only 6 games with the Wild this year, and he was a minus 6. Only six games prior with their minor league club before that, where he was a plus 9. Did he just come back from an injury? What did the Wild project him as prior to this development? - 333inthe3rd

Could be they want Gilbert to develop on the farm, while this guy is the career 7D in Chicago. |

Has been an excellent maintainer - retooled after the 2010 sell-off to get to the 2013-2015 run. Excellent job.
Different skill level required now - a almost-complete rebuild, not just filling in around a young a viable core like he did six and seven years ago.
Jerry Krauss was very good at doing one (the retool), not so hot at doing the other. Let's see what Stan can do.
Jury is still out for me. |

OR going to play him over Boqvist. Which given JC's fondness for Smith is a possibility. |
