Anyone hear that Burke threw out the word Vezina when talking about Marky yesterday? I don't think he's truely in contention but you have to think if he plays out the season the way he has so far he could get nominated.

Canucks are the 3rd highest scoring 1st period team in the NHL this year, so even if they're allowing the first goal a lot, they often aren't behind for long.
- NorthNuck

Are they walking out of periods always ahead, being one of the highest scoring first period teams? Is there a goals per period average? I mean you score 4 in a few period 3 times. Looks great for an overall stat but that doesn't mean they scored 12 goals in 12 games in the first period. They could have scored 4- 3 times and went scoreless for 9 others.

Going to have to dig deeper than that. The Canucks were outshooting opponents last season a lot of the time but when Biega is floating in 10 wristers for the corner of the blue line with zero traffic in front should they really even be counted as a shot? No, but they are.
- manvanfan

No, I don't. I can make sense of it already without doing so...and without using Biega as an example.

I doubt Roussel is on the block. I think his varying ice time has to do with getting in game shape without the risk of burnout as a 30 year old coming off of a significant injury and subsequent layoff. Managing his ice time given the nature of the game he plays and it's significance for the playoffs seems like a smart move. I'm not concerned about the streaky scoring of a bottom six player as long as they bring the other elements of their game.

Better make playoffs this year. Van's due for a very huge regression for next season.

LA is a better team and so is SJ than expected Van

See Van's just "lucky"

I'm trying man. All I've gotten so far is that we "outshot opponents a lot of the time last year". When in actuality we got outshot in 47 games. Followed by some obscure Biega reference. Then, telling me I'm the one showing off my lack of hockey knowledge. I can't work with that kind of material.

I mean, Alex (frank)ing Biega? That's digging deeper and flexing your brain?

Lockwood would be ahead of Gadjovich at this point in time on that list. Honestly I don't know how McDonaugh is so low. He's the same age as Madden and scoring at close to the same rate.

I don't think Madden has that kind of top 6 potential to be rated over a player who still has top 4 D potential.

- manvanfan

I thought McDonough was a bit low as well but from what I've read his points are the result of playing with Madden and on the PP then actually driving the offense.

I think Madden looks like a better prospect than Gaudette did but time will tell.

I think it's a pretty good list of prospects considering Gaudette, Demko and Hughes all graduated.

This just proves that advanced Stats aren't as valuable as people think.

It's probably the same as regular stats. They aren't what they seem for every player.

or team in this case.

I don't think the Canucks have been "lucky" at all. I also don't think that Van's goalies are "luckier" than other goalies.

I've always thought that other teams goalies have just made so many crazy good saves vs Van. It's just what happens when you have an above average goalie. Above average shooters that have finish. (hard to find good players that can score) that's why 30 goal scorers are paid so much.

In the pregame they said Rafferty has 3 points to go before he has the record for most points by a D-man in the history of the Utica franchise.

Thanks for updates.
I was thinking last night (Before learning of Rousell being out) that i'd like to see Baily on the 3rd line with AG and BB and put Roussell on the 4th line.
Schaller to the 4th makes sense for now.

- dbot

I agree. Mac really is a spare given how he’s played.

3 second period fights in BOS vs WPG.

I got cable again. It's a real waste of money. I'm ready to get rid of it after like 6 hours.

Brad Marchand showing he's the strongest of the NHL midgets by fighting Ehlers. I want Virtanen to run him.
