What is at the root of this rebuild taking so long? Is it talent yes & no but it goes deeper.

Who is the leadership group other than Jack on ice dragging the team along?
None i can see with the team being so young. I don’t see the right blend of vets & roles they play. In goal more could be a fair ask.

The front office of this team has been a laughing stock for far too long.

I doubt players would worry about coming to play with Jack, and Dahlin. They would be more worried about the nightmare around them.

Easily, this team is 3 competent pieces away from being in the conversation of looking like a team.

This offseason has to be a grand slam, or it's another 4-5 years before anything of interest happens. The grand slam, is likely only a one year flash in the pan too. There is no depth behind whomever comes in for the foreseeable future.

The sad part is, I think they can be good.

They choose to make brain dead decisions, trade for players on expiring deals thinking they will magically up their play in a contract year, and players would take big strides in development.

None of the things they hoped for worked.

Sheary - still disappears for long stretches
Vesey - barf
Miller - doesn't play
Girgensons - fine as a 4th liner
Larsson - fine as a 4th liner
Casey - Starting to come along in Rochester, but by no means lighting the world on fire.
ERod - Doesn't play
MoJo - Playing out of position, and probably too high in the line up
Tage - Hurt, didn't get a chance on the team
Lazar - Fine
Joker - Good to great
Bogo - barrrrrrrrrrrrrf

The list of what is coming off the books is pure garbage.

That leaves a lot of openings, and $35 Million goes fast when you have to pay declining players like Okposo too much to be here.

- Players responsible for their own skills development?
- Players need to accept and become accountable for fixing the God-blessed basics of their individual game?

Jesus Christ, next we'll hear about the HC being responsible for the skating prowess or lack thereof.

Here's a friggin thought:

-GM responsible for roster construction with capable players and suitable depth, and development strategy of younger players
-Coach responsible for System design, implementation, training and optimization (puting players in positions for success of the team)
-Players responsible for execution of system and within the system (do your friggin job, not everyone elses) AND for their skills development to maximize effectiveness of their own play in the system

I'd say the biggest problems on this team are the 1st and 3rd bullets. That is not to say the 2nd is perfect, nope, he has made his share of mistakes for sure.

It is time to jettison 65% of the players on this team...and bring in Jimmy Rutherford to Pres of Hockey Ops to oversee it all.

Very similar to what the Canes and Leafs did (Marleau, 1st and 7th for a 6th), however it gives Boston a big defenseman to play on the 3rd pairing going into the playoffs. That is one of the things they're rumored to be looking for.
