way to early to tell, and how long until they develop enough to move the needle... my guess would be 3 years. - gordong
Which is why, if you feel like being good before that 3 years, tanking is for bumholes. |

That trade was even worse. You couldn't scalp any top 6 talent for this guy? Top 9 guy? 4th or 5Th D-Man???? Something of Value in return??? - mattsox
I usually have confidence in claims I hear from certain people on here, however I do have a hard time believing Botts passed on multiple 1sts especially if it was because they were for '20 & '21.
If a team were willing to give up that much you would consider it a team contending for the Cup and would likely be willing to include the '18 or '19 pick instead of skipping two drafts and offering those instead. At the time of the trade, the only team that did not have their '19 pick to offer in a trade was Ottawa, and they were no where close to making the playoffs. It could have been Ottawa, but if it was I would guess that the 2nd pick was conditional on Kane resigning in Ottawa, which would have been highly unlikely.
So if it was Ottawa's '20 1st and the '21 1st only if Kane resigns, I can see Botts passing and waiting for a better deal.
Secondly, looking at the trade deadline and considering Kane's history of being a bad teammate in Winnipeg and his off ice issues in Buffalo, it seems to be a pretty fair deal. Not a lot of comparables that season, but I would consider Stastny to be close. Winnipeg got Erik Foley, '18 first and '20 fourth. Buffalo got O'Regan, '18 first and '20 fourth.
The Sabres did use that 1st to get Montour and St Louis traded the guy they drafted with the 1st to get Faulk. I would say both have the same net results. |

Horrible mistake on his part.
Especially now that San Jose is a bottom
Feeder. Another reason to can him. We could be looking at a top 5 pick this year and maybe next year for Kane.
Instead we got Johnson - Fattony1187
It would not have been San Jose's first. Even if it was, they wouldn't have then traded for Karlsson, which would probably put them higher in the standings. |

Good to hear.
My doctor was watchful to see the anchors are holding the tendon in the rotator cuff together. Fortunately I didn't tear the bicep tendon. He likes to check those things that everything is progressing, so far so good.
I wish you the best with the re-hab. It can be a slow process. - mhp
Thanks, good to hear everything is going good for you. Everything was still pretty solid with everything they did, just with not being able to do much with the bicep the harness needed to be tightened. Just sucks gonna be in a sling for another few weeks. |

Stop blaming Tim Murray, he did what he was told by our clueless owner and his wife. - SABRES 89
You have to quit repeating yourself about this false narrative that the Pegula's forced TM to make the bad trades for Kane, ROR and Lehner. He was hired because he sold the Peg's on his vision and convinced them his plan would get them to the playoffs and would be contenders right away.
He was nothing but a snake oil salesman.

$20 none of these players score a point in the next game:
Girgs
Larsson
Okposo
Vesey
Sheary
Frolik
Erod

there's not a situation I can imagine wherein the Sabres evolve into "LEGIT contenders"
with currently constructed ownership / mgmt / coaching / roster / assets |

I read the rumors about Risto for Roslovic and agree that would be horrible. Here's an update from Spector's page:
With the Winnipeg Jets reportedly in the market for a top-four defenseman, Ken Wiebe wondered if they might revisit their earlier interest in Buffalo Sabres blueliner Rasmus Ristolainen. He also listed Ristolainen’s teammate Colin Miller.
Wiebe suggested Jets forward Jack Roslovic might make the most sense as a trade chip.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Winnipeg Sun’s Scott Billeck believes adding a top-four defenseman would prove too costly, forcing them to give up a top-six forward or a first-round pick and one of their top prospects. “Teams want talent for talent. They want Nikolaj Ehlers, not Luca Sbisa. Kyle Connor, not Nick Shore,” he said.
Would Miller for Roslovic make sense? |
