and that's why they want the longer deals - Vukota
No question makes sense for the hockey players. It's real tough on the teams and fans of teams with Cap issues. |

Then why did not one team pick Hickey up when he was cut? Lou could not find a taker for Hickey. More examples of what other teams think of Islander mediocre talent. It's funny how you love the Leo and Hickey type players. - ses111
Because as I said, He was a good depth guy and also Dobson hadn't even broke his cherry yet. Trading Hickey would have been short sighted imo.
Unless you were going to get an incredible return for him, which wasn't going to happen, he was worth more as depth for an injury or if Dobson took a shat. As it turns out it may have been nice to have him Healthy when pelech went down. forget if there were another injury.

Hickey was waived, though. No one wanted him at the price/term he was signed to. |

I don't think 2.5 for 4 is a crazy amount for him.
I think him missing the second half of the year with his 3rd concussion had more of a factor than his cost. Then him getting another one in his first week in BP might have made GM's shy away.
Of course that's just my opinion. |

At some point you need to see if Aho or other Bridge dmen can be depth players. Hickey just does not seem to be valued by other teams similar to Leo probably not valued by other teams. |

Don't see Aho cutting it imho.
So the concussions didn't effect Hickey's value in any way? OK
How does Komorav even entry the discussion on Hickey? |

I guess my point is, keeping him wasn't really Lou's call. It's not like he's still on the Isles because Lou had trading options but made the decision to keep him for depth instead. Hickey was waived to free up the roster spot for Dobson. Any team could have picked him up for nothing but the cost of his contract, and, for whatever the reasons may be, none of them bit, which speaks to how he was valued at that time.

It seems the rest of the NHLโs general managers didnโt agree. Also, he was already waived and nobody took him before he got his concussion in Bdgpt so that point is kind of null and void. Term and salary were a bit high for a defenseman of his caliber imo and everyone elseโs opinion in the NHL evidently. Sure we could use him now because Pelech went down but ten million over four years is an unnecessary chunk of salary for a maybe/hindsight kind of need imo. |

Maybe Aho does not cut it but Isles do not need him as a tp 4 player.
Leo factors in because it's a mistake to lock in bottom tier players into long term deals.
All I know is no team picked up Hickey before the concussion in Bridge. |

He had a concussion that kept him out of the 2nd half of the year? Come on this isn't a factor?. |

I really think it had more to do with him being not that good and overpaid on a four year contract.
