I think Thompson had his hands tied to Cappy and Doug's systems for years. I think with Trotz at the helm the young guys in BP are well aware of whats expected of them. I think he's good with the young guys at least that's the reputation he has. For me since Trotz has been here the Kids that are called up look like they are in tune with what's expected when they are here, except for maybe JHS. As for him I hope he turns things around this year, he's so talented.

Well Bellows certainly seems like a Trotz type of player. I have my concerns about him being able to keep up with the pace in the NHL but he's played so well there's no doubt it was time to give him a shot and see what happens. Hoping he takes the opportunity and runs with it because god knows they need to start putting some more pucks in the net

Just makes the inevitable Bellows hat trick that much more impressive.

Truthfully though, at the very least Bellows should provide some much needed energy.

Hopefully Bellows will be like this guy shooting first.

The thing lost in this whole scenario is the Islanders perspective. the previous year the Isles had a few offers out to goalies and were waiting for replies. The replies they finally got was news the goalies had signed somewhere else... They then hired Lehner off the scrap heap with all his baggage and issues hoping to catch lightnening ina bottle. .... It obviously worked out well for the Isles and Lehner.

Once you give a guy your best offer you are willing to give him given all the issues and things that come with him.... if he hangs up the phone and doesn't get back to you quickly.... you can't assume he is calling back. If anything once he did not call back immediately you have to assume he is getting a better offers.

How'd that work out?

In general they have done that... we have Dobson playing a lot, They had Whalstrom up earlier this year, Koivula got some games, So did Bardreau. Toews last year is now full time.. etc. I think these guys get it more than the last regime.. thank God.

I feel like it took way too long for Trotz to figure out how that 3rd line was an issue... we had talked about it for l;ast 5 games.

Dobson's only playing a lot because Pelech is out. Everyone here was complaining about his lack of playing time before that. The kids have gotten games here and there but not all that much.

From LeBrun in the Athletic:

Ottawa Senators trade Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Ron Hainsey to the New York Islanders in exchange for a 2020 conditional second-round pick, a conditional third-round pick in 2021 and prospect Kieffer Bellows.

(Conditions: The second-round pick becomes a first-round pick if the Isles reach the second round and Pageau plays in at least 50 percent of the games; the third-round pick in ‘21 becomes a second if Pageau re-signs with the Isles. If he doesn’t sign with the Isles, the Sens still get a third-rounder in ’21).

My take: Lou Lamoriello brought Hainsey to Toronto in July 2017 and I think has always admired the player. Hainsey would be a nice fit depth-wise on the left side for the Isles and he’s got championship experience with Pittsburgh. Hainsey has a modified no-trade clause, but I believe the Isles are clear of it. Pageau fills a top-9 need for the Isles and his blue-collar, two-way playing style fits in nicely with the Isles’ culture.

Now, it might be that either or both of Pageau and Hainsey end up signing extensions with the Senators but for the time being, they’re still pending UFAs and there’s potential for them to be dealt. As I wrote last week, my sense is that Senators GM Pierre Dorion would try to get a straight first-rounder for Pageau and why not try given how thin the rental centre market is. But I’m betting the first-round picks will all have conditional strings attached. Dorion had a solid deadline a year ago in selling off parts, most notably getting two second-round picks plus Anthony Duclair from Columbus for pending UFA winger Ryan Dzingel.

I would welcome both, Pageau obviously fits nicely and fills a void at C and Hainsey would add D depth.
Just not sure Pageau wants to leave Ottawa. Maybe he leaves at the TDL and then resigns with them after July 1. I’m sure Pageau is on Lou’s hit list.
