How many minutes did Manson get for that hit? Probably got an extra 2 for bumping Pasternak's stick afterwards too.
- The Law

10 out 10 times extra bump by manson on pastrnak is a penalty. bad missed call by the refs if they didn't put manson in the box.

Sundin looks like the real deal. Dermott is 23. Don't give up yet. The vast majority of d men get better as they approach 30 and play their best hockey around 30 years old. Guys that are really good really young are the exception.
- aminnes

idk if it's best hockey at 30.

but rielly basically sucked until he was 23.

i think dermott has improved this year, but is not ready for top competition.

i am still hopeful he steps up his game over the next year and a half. still time for him.

Could it be that people expected progression and have since failed to see much, if any, and are thus disappointed?

nah, flavour of month. The mediator has spoken.

We traded down to get Bracco and Dermott.

Philly traded up, and took Koenecky.

He just played in the all star game.

Let's play apples to apples. First 10 games of their NHL career:

Dermott:
152 5v5 minutes
55.69CF%
8 GF, 2 GA
xGF%: 52.78%
HDCF: 53.33%
1 goal, 3 assists
GV: 10, TK: 4
16 hits
7 Blocked Shots

Sandin:
130 5v5 minutes
56.43 CF%
6 GF, 2 GA
xGF%: 53.89%
HDCF%: 48.08
1 goal, 4 assists
GV: 5, TK: 0
12 hits
5 Blocked Shots

The level of competition is very important when you consider this. More minutes comes with more mental fatigue and better competition comes with less time to react, think, and do.

As I said, I have little doubt that Sandin has a significantly higher ceiling than Dermott, but writing Dermott off because Sandin is so much better after 10 games is patently untrue.

Now check how much Dermott has improved?

Let’s hope Sandin improves after his first 10
Games. Dermott hasn’t.

Great question....for Prindham.

...but my thinking was with a couple ELCs, Dermott/Holl being cheapish and Ceci being gone that maybe it works if Muzzin isn't too expensive???

Am I the only one that doesn't mind his game and sees more of a slump for a younger D man??

I think it's a little too early. Would like to see one more season of growth first.

From last thread:
Anyone who agrees with you is probably just another guy who makes up random opinions in his head to be different than everyone else.
- Santo_44

i might agree if I’d ever seen hintz play👍

i’d like them to trade perimeter willi for another legit defensive defenseman👍🏿

edit:nice alliteration 👍

- Skalapy

Perimeter Willy has the most goals from the slot in the NHL.

The problem is his lack of improvement and poor showings when being trusted with anything above sheltered mins.

He’s young, there is still time but I think it’s safe to think less from him than we did a few years ago.

You're not the only one lol. I still think Dermott has potential. He's still young for a defender.
It's also a bit silly to compare him to Sandin, who hasn't played much yet in the NHL, which makes a comparison difficult, and who lets face it, is probably just an extraordinary talent. Just because we see more promise in Sandin, doesn't make Dermott crap.

I also found that comment of Skalapy's to be pretty funny lol. Anyone still calling him perimeter Willy looks like someone that hasn't been paying any attention this season.

We’ll see how much he demands in offseason.

The Leafs aren’t paying him 2-3 million to play on the 3rd pairing.

Don’t hate his game either. He’s a good 3rd pairing D. Most were expecting growth, but he hasn’t look good at all in the top-4. He’s only 23 and started the year on the IR, but maybe this is his ceiling?

If the Leafs could Manson with a package centred around Dermott, they should do it.

For example

If Kappy and a prospect doesn’t get Manson. I’d add Dermott into that...

Kapanen, Dermott, Ceci

for

Manson, Ritchie and a contract dump

Well sure, there are always other things to consider, like whether we have better options, or if his salary is doable. But assuming those things work themselves out, he could still become a pretty good defender in the next couple years.
It would suck if he does that on some other team, when we could've easily kept him, but gave up on him and traded him for peanuts.

If you can package him and get us a far better player, sure I guess... But I doubt he has much trade value, since he really hasn't been that great lately, so I question what we'd get for him anyways.

Keep Rielly Dermott Sandin for LHD
Keep Holl and Liljegren for RHD.
Trade for a RHD (would like Manson).
Sign / trade for another good 7th D man.

Bye bye Muzzin and Barrie.

Dermott has good value for a rebuilding/retooling team.

The Leafs may not have the cap space to keep him on the team....They can't afford to pay anyone on the 3rd pairing above a million.

If Robertson doesn't make the Leafs next season which I doubt he will.

Wouldn't it be best for his development to join a college or university team instead of another year in the OHL.

Or is he under contract with the Pete's still I don't know how any of that works lol.

It's just....when he literally has more goals than anyone in the league from the dirty areas, it might be time to take a step back and reappraise one's hot take.

He also didnt have a real training camp due to injury. Maybe its nagging him. Meh he still gets another year if hes not needed in a trade.

So you think he has good value, but isn't that good? The salary concern I get, but if you guys think he is a third pairing guy at best, why is anyone going to trade good assets for him? What do you realistically think we'd get for him?
