Nah, you can't win with Kessel, why trade for him - PatC80
But what if you trade Melander the loser out, for Kessel the loser in? Isn't that sort of like a loser wash? |

yup. for trades, the leafs essentially need to move out a dollar for every dollar they bring in; except if rielly is ready. i think the options are:
1) cut ~3 down to the marlies: gaudet, marincin and one of say sandin/engvall (re: waivers)
2) trade out a couple more million than you bring in
3) put someone else with a +2M caphit onto ltir.
if rielly is not ready:
leave rielly on ltir until the playoffs and then they have $4Mish to play with. - Tumbleweed
If Rielly is out until theplayoffs, there may not be playoffs.

I’d do it if the trade is fair.
He’s been meh the last few years but his 4 million contract is worth the risk. |

I'll just fix all the problems at once.
Kapanen + timashov and whatever the (frank) else for Manson
Bracco for Desmith
Dermott + for Josh Anderson
Ceci for some Gatorade and protein to get close on the cap and feed all that added testosterone.
I don't have the energy to do the lines from there but I'm pretty sure they are tits.
They can send me a cup ring in the mail if they want. |

I’d look at Anaheim in improving the goaltending position as well.
Kapanen, Bracco and another good piece.

With Sandin now in the lineup I think if they add a partner for Rielly then need to move Barrie.
Rielly - New Guy
Muzzin - Holl
Sandin - Ceci
Dermott
Barrie is still sexy at the TDD and the Leafs have Rielly and Sandin to play PP minutes.
Barrie for assets .....then flip assets for Rielly's new partner. If they can avoid moving Kapanen great. With Mikheyev possibly done I'd rather move Barrie plus picks/prospects then one of the top 9 fwds.
Then reset in the summer when more guys are available. |

Not opposed if it's affordable, but I prefer to look at a backup who can adequately fill the role the next couple seasons as well. Not sure I'd bank on Miller after this season...
Unless people believe Anthony Stolarz can be that guy... |

I’m keeping Barrie.
He’s helped turn around this PP while Rielly has struggled with it.
I’d move Dermott first. |

Well the offseason will provide options.
There’s that goalie from the KHL too. |

I have previously been on record as being down with that plan.
Although, if the team plays well and adds the right pieces down the stretch, I am fine with keeping Barrie for the playoffs (if he stops being a complete (frank)ing tire fire)
Rielly / new guy
Muzzin / Holl
Sandin/Dermott/Barrie
Because that blueline looks competitive to me, and even makes dermott expendable to add an impact forward who will defend his teammates and appease that void as well. |

He has been a stud and I'm all for it, but I don't like pinning my hopes on a guy with no NHL results.
Rather ensure we are in a Mikheyev situation, where we aren't dependent on it if it goes south yet stand to gain immensely if it works out well. |

Get Lindholm with $700k retained. He can plop in under Rielly's LTIR room. If the news is good on Rielly, move Ceci for a pick. If the news is poor on Rielly, retain Ceci as insurance in the playoffs; he's a decent 5/6. Then with the $700k retained, Lindholm's remaining $4.5m supplants Ceci's.
How hard can that be?

Ya, Barrie over Dermott for sure but if the idea is to move Barrie away from Rielly and you already like Muzzin/Holl then that 3rd pairing of Sandin-Barrie is pretty risky.
I'm just thinking that if Ceci is good enough on the 3rd pairing with Sandin ...and the Muzzin/Holl pairing continues to be very good ...and Rielly is back and healthy and you want a new partner.
Then Dermott gets slid down the order and Barrie gets traded for some pretty nice assets (to replace the assets you probably traded to get Rielly's new partner). |

Have a feeling lindholm will be priced to high. And from the times I've watched him play (admittedly only a dozen or so), I haven't seen anything that warrants the Nylander type pricetag... |

Without a 1st to really use (and I wouldn't go out to 2022), we're hampered. We still need to stock the farm. Can't rely on snagging a Robertson in the 50s (or at 62) every time. |

I think a guy like Manson can be utilized on pretty much any pairing. On top of making every Boston Bruin second guess whether he's on the ice every time they want to cross the blueline, and the contract, it's that versatility that's gearing me towards him.
Love the idea of the leafs heading into the playoffs with the ability to send Muzzin out on one pairing and Manson on another. |

That leaves them with ...
Rielly-Lindholm
Muzzin-Holl
Sandin-Barrie
Dermott-Ceci
That's a lot of guys used to playing minutes. Not a bad thing but I'm thinking a healthy Rielly and/or Sandin can make the PP work making Barrie a bit of a luxury.

That was my point ...what does Barrie fetch at the TDD?
Gotta be a 1st and a prospect, no?
If so flip that plus for Rielly's new partner.
Keep the fwd group together if you can (especially if Mikheyev is out for the year). |

Ceci's salary would have to go prior to a Lindholm coming in. It would never fit. |
