He's Gardiner-esque for sure.

I'd flip him and Bracco for Manson.

im really tired of watching him play like poop, meanwhile Kadri is tearing it up...

thx Dubas...

Ducks will have no interest in a pending ufa.

agree, Barrie unlikely to be traded, Johnsson, prospects more likely. Leafs more likely to add d-men without moving one.

Back reading . . . I missed the first 15 minutes of the game, but as much as it's unusual to say - I thought Ceci looked very good yesterday. He's still not great with the puck - but his decisions were better and his pinches were well executed. My first thought was, "I don't recall, but I bet he got at least a point yesterday, considering how often I noticed him contributing to the offensive cycle". He did have an assist on the Nylander goal - which was really all Sandin's pass!

Ceci wasn't bad. Defense in general is so much better without even 5 minutes of Marincin. He's horrible. The Sandin pass was great, unfortunately the Leafs still need to figure out passing on the tape, The passes into the skates drive me crazy.

Big W for the Leafs last night.

Bigger test this Wednesday vs the Stars who just beat TB.

Kerfoot's been good. Kadri's playing in the 2C hole with the Avs, so obviously he's going to put up the points. I'd rather Tavares thanks.

Some of the passes they try from their own goal line that get picked off and turned over would make my blood boil. Not that they happen all the time, but I've noticed they do it more than you see on average.

How long is Rielly out for?

Dermott didn't fair well last night with Barrie, but I think that's more of a Barrie thing than a Dermott thing.

- gravyface

Rielly, I think, is probably back maybe a week before the playoffs. If the Leafs decide to acquire some D-Help in the 5m range, they can keep him on LTIR until the season ends, and then go into the playoffs with the extra player since the cap doesn't count in the playoffs.

I thought Dermott just looked bad yesterday. Barrie is always . . . like trusting a Roomba to clean up - you'll be happy with parts of it, and maybe glad sort of, but really it's not doing a thorough job, and if you're honest with yourself, a real vaccuum would probably do the job better.

Dermott, I thought, overplayed a few plays yesterday, made that poor stretch pass decision that led to the icing, and then failed to cover his guy on the defensive zone face/off. I would have liked it if Andersen could have held that puck in his glove, but that goal doesn't happen if Dermott has his guy.

If Rielly is ready though, wouldn't you like to have him get in a few games before the playoffs? I feel like that's the toughest part about pulling the Patrick Kane playoff cap maneuver. Probably worth it though.

To me the idea of the stretch pass is to add a weapon to an arsenal, not to be the arsenal. If you use the stretch pass because it's suddenly available and a forward anticipated the opportunity, and a lane is there - then it's something teams should exploit. If it's your only avenue for gaining the opposition zone, you might need to change your strategy (the Wilson / Carlyle days).

The Leafs immaturity that has been spoken of, I think, sits in that wheel house. They know how to play a more controlled game with the puck and move the puck up ice better - but there is still a lot of glory seeking. The Hail Mary pass that connects; the individual move through 3 guys; the low percentage play that looks great (like a behind the back breakout pass at your own blueline) but is just a poor idea . . .

I'm not bashing on the Leafs here, because I think they have the ability to put it together - but they need to stop relying on habits that make the game "easier" on them that really make it harder in the end.

Funny - as I typed that, I was thinking exactly this (I'd rather him be in game shape for the playoffs, not GETTING in game shape during the playoffs - he's so valuable when he's on his game). So yeah, unless the player they could get was someone like Lindholm who could help alleviate the time while Rielly got back up to speed, there's significant risk in it.

I was sure that Nylander had left the zone waaaaaaay too early on his goal, but upon further review, it was just a helluva smart play by him.

Sandin looking real steady for a 19yo
he makes those plays that give him just an extra bit of time and space.
