I think Guerin has some rope because they just fired the last GM after a year. Specifical to Zucker, they have too many LWs. They know they need a shake up.

Long-term though, that was a brutal job to take. It will be tough to wait out all those aging contracts.

- Tojo.

Ya definitely agree. I feel bad for Guerin he's in a bad situation.

No, but if at the end of day, if for whatever reason Kovy is the only guy available to us and he costs a third, you do it, regardless of the fact that he would have only cost $700k before.

Oh it’s super frustrating. Just making the point that Kovalchuk’s previous availability shouldn’t factor into decision making anymore according to sunk cost. But the thing about sunk cost is that most humans are incapable of factoring it in for emotional reasons.

I need some recommendations... I'm new to Twitter and looking to follow QUALITY Pens reporting. Who would you recommend? I follow inside scoop, McKenzie, and 31 thoughts.

If they think they still have a shot from 10 points out with multiple teams to jump, they're deluding themselves.
- Tojo.

Fan mentality and Organization/Team mentality are very different. I’m not saying these teams necessarily believe they have a true shot of making it, but if they’re still mathematically in it, they’re not likely to throw in the towel until the deadline.

STL last year was more the exception than the rule obviously and many things needed to happen for them besides winning, so with teams like Buffalo and MTL the same thing applies, a couple of three or four game winning streaks vs. a couple of three or four game losing streaks for other teams at the right time puts them right back in the mix.

Major injuries happen, etc... I'm not saying I believe they realistically have a shot, but I understand them not being a rush when the deadline is a month away.

Maybe he tries to poach Mike Vellucci?
- Hockey66

Doubtful, Guerin wanted the Pens to get more physical. Assuming you can believe what was reported earlier.

The bottom line is, I do not see a Boudreau - Guerin fit.

Guerin has a difficult job ahead of him, his first and most important decision is to get a management team in place. As far as players go, I don't know, nor do I care how he handles that situation. I only care about Pittsburgh.

I just came here to see if anyone has heard about who's healthy enough to practice. Figured yesterday or today would of been first practice. I've been a bit out of the loop the past week and a half dealing with an 8 day state of emergency and then trying to get back to life after it haha.

Maybe they're getting one more day before returning to practice. Personally, I think long layoffs while good for healing can really create rust. I won't be shocked to seem them struggle again vs. Philly.

I'm actually totally counting on the game being a sloppy affair after 9 or 10 days with no game action but the good news is the Flyers will have been off the same amount of time.

Fresh news...

"The Penguins have agreed to terms with defenseman Marcus Pettersson on a five-year contract extension.

The deal will kick in at the beginning of the 2020.21 season and run through the 2024.25 campaign, carrying an average annual value of $4,025,175."

Approx a 16.3 mill cap hit (next season) for your top 4 is a pretty good price IMO.

But doesn’t that mean either Pettersson or Marino will have to be exposed to the expansion draft? Unless JR tells Seattle “Here’s a 1st round pick if you take Jack Johnson”

Whose contract runs out next? I'd tend to agree too.
