I think Rutherford has a couple of targets in mind. I don't see Kovy as one of them.

Yea especially McKenzie shutting that down that Ruth had zero interest.

I mean, do you really believe that will be the best deal? I think we end up with a deal with the Ducks. Hopefully Rakell
- 668710

The only way I see the Ducks trading Rackell is if they have no intention of extending or re-signing him. The only justification I can come up with is that they don't want to give him his last big contract starting with his age 29 season. I'd say it's in the 'very long shot' category but I hope I'm wrong.

I don't think it's impossible for JR to change his mind based on Kovy's improved play since getting to MTL, but I still think it's a bad move to give up an asset now when they didn't have to either.

So 2 LDs who I think are / would be available that the Pens should target is Vatanen and Brodin. I probably wouldn't bother with Dillon and Scandella.

Just my guess, but I think Rutherford is looking for Zucker or someone in that mold. Younger two way player with wheels.

Unless another rash of injuries happen I don't think they're going after any defense.

Boring. Just looking forward to Flames Oilers, kind of feel like it it’s the first real thing to happen to hockey since 2011. I really hope some dies on the ice and pushes every new nhl fan away from the sport.

Tojo reported that in Yohe's interview with JR that he didn't seem to care if it's a rental or term.

Yea makes sense because if they do get a rental and he fits in we can sign him.

Man IDK dude. Marino’s been really good for what he is, but I’m not seeing 50+ points two-way 1D potential from him. I think he’s just a really solid top 4 D. Which is an awesome diamond to find in the rough, but nothing you can build your franchise around. You’re right that a guy like Guentzel is a potential franchise cornerstone, but a top line wing isn’t the hardest piece of the puzzle. 1C and 1D are the two most vital pieces of building a contender up and I just don’t think we have that in the pipeline. We’ll definitely hit a doldrum in the post Sid/Geno era unless a couple MAJOR surprises happen.
- Victoro311

I'd say Marino is a 2-3 defenseman. I also don't think he has the offensive upsude or PP ability to be a true #1, but seems like he can do everything else and even hua scoring is deceptively good since he got almost no points early.

Exactly what this team needed, but not a Letang replacement.

I have a feeling you could have stopped typing at Zucker. GMJR seems locked in.

Was reading an article and I wasnt really that into it but the part I found interesting is the amount of trades we've had with the Ducks.

The issue I think is too many teams that are currently not in a playoff spot still have a shot with how close the standings are in each division, so nobody is in a rush.

Minny and Nash can probably delude themselves enough to believe they can scratch and claw into the last playoff spot. I don't believe the Wild can crawl over better teams like Vegas or Peg but what's the rush I guess.

In the east, teams from Buffalo on down are toast. No chance.

But will it put Guerin under fire? The owners do not want to rebuild and trading Zucker would basically be saying let's rebuild. Could it cost Billy G his job? Idk just thinking. They could retool if they could move Staal, Parise, Koivu, Suter but I doubt they can/don't want to.

Mathematically BUF and MTL are still in it, so while you or I may believe they're done the teams will not have the same mentality.

If they think they still have a shot from 10 points out with multiple teams to jump, they're deluding themselves.

I think Guerin has some rope because they just fired the last GM after a year. Specifical to Zucker, they have too many LWs. They know they need a shake up.

Long-term though, that was a brutal job to take. It will be tough to wait out all those aging contracts.

No, but if at the end of day, if for whatever reason Kovy is the only guy available to us and he costs a third, you do it, regardless of the fact that he would have only cost $700k before.

The new CBA negotiation is just two years away. Probably a coupe of compliance buyouts to get rid of Parise and Suter. Scraping those two contracts off will dramatically change the trajectory of a rebuild. If Billy G is smart, he would try to sell his owner on loading up on picks and prospects until then.

Guerin has a decision to make between now and the draft. Who is his coach? Boudreau isn't signed beyond this year. I can't see him getting a new contract.

Maybe he tries to poach Mike Vellucci?
