Why would they re-sign Scandella? - obie
why not? so far he played well, no? I'm not saying they will (or should) sign him, but it's certainly a possibility. |

Bergevin traded a pick for him so maybe. |

Mete has close to 200 NHL games under his belt, Fleury has 40.
imo Fleury will be a Habs for a long time. Mete I'm not sure. he needs to step it up offensively since he is not as physical as Fleury.
no one is asking a defensive dman (Benn Alzner...) to produce offensively. but Mete is not a defensive dman. - fidopro
Long term I prefer Fleury as well. He’ll be a more rounded player. Meet is always going to struggle in his end and it’s questionable whether he will move the puck well enough to more than just offset his weaknesses. |

If the goal is to challenge for a playoff spot next year (and if Bergevin still here, it will be), then it makes sense to sign him if you can get him relatively short term. |

(frank) off with your fancy stats.
I wouldn't be suprised to see Fleury have more points than Mete over the next few years. he has shown a few moves. don't forget that Mete always played top pair (except the past few months) and a lot more minutes, compared to Fleury who has always played 3rd pair.
for Mete, it will depend if MB extends Scandella or not. because if they do sign Scandella, then you have Chiarot, Scandella, Mette.... and maybe Romanov. where do you play Mete then? - fidopro
But Mete was also more likely to play against the top line, so possessions are a wash. I'll accept that it leads to more blocked blocked shots in term of pure quantity. |

It's not like they are getting much if they trade him. |

if there's one guy who they could trade at the tdl and sign comes July 1st, it is Scandella. hometowon boy, he'd sign in a NY minute.
true that they wouldn't get much in a trade though. |

why? because he suddendly discovered a new fling with Montreal?
give me a break. Kovalchuck will do what he does best, like many others before him btw. he'll go where the money is. |

This team needs to win win win if we want to see the kids reach another level. Who cares about the draft? (Knowing that the difference between 7-14 pick ain’t much) |

So give him money, overpay a little on a 1 year deal and trade him again next February |

Sure but Kovalchuck is exactly the type of free agents they should target on a rebuild, guys that will take one year deals and get you more assets at the deadline... especially if they were to trade Tatar... don't you think? |

No big deal if they don't, I'm just saying he would have more value to flip again at the next deadline |

why would they flip Scandella again next year?? if Scandella signs here in the summer it will be for more than 1 season imo. |
