It's terrible. This may be the most tragic and sudden death of a global icon in my generation. Can't say I've had someone I considered a childhood hero pass away, especially at such a young age. It makes it even more devastating that his daughter was with him. I can't imagine what Kobe's wife and daughters are going though, as well as the other families who lost their loved ones. I woke up hoping it was just a bad dream.

Yeah. Me too. It's just so out of the normal order and sudden. He wasn't able to live a full retirement and pass at a natural time etc. So many things will now be missed. Terrible.

Fletcher strikes me as a type who is likely to add. If he does so, I hope we’re the first team to make a move. It always feels like Pittsburgh is the first and the quickest to target players and pull the trigger first.

Thanks for posting the link. The basis for the rumor is about what Sam Carchidi "believes" the Flyers are going to do. It may or may not happen but that is not a quality source in my opinion.
- MJL

I agree it’s not a quality source, but how many rumors really are a quality source. Regardless, the list seems somewhat rational on what the flyers might be interested in. They decent players, line 2 type of guys, 27-28 yr, that shouldn’t break the bank or burn picks or prospects.

It’s not the players on the list that’s the problem. It’s trading Ghost which is a big no no for some.

Many rumors are from quality sources. I think what has to be made clear here is that this is not a rumor that has been generated by sources that have gotten wind of teams talking about players in deals. This is a rumor generated based on what a beat writer, who is awful, believes is going to happen. See the difference?

I think you're also underestimating the costs involved for those players both in terms of cost to acquire and cap cost.

Wade Allison quietly getting back on track, that is good news. Provy says systems and winning are big part of his turn around.

If they trade Ghost it better be good. They better understand their NHL depth for this season. I was not a fan of trading, still not unless they really win the trade. I think it would have to be more than a 1 for 1. You would think they would trade for a middle 6 player, then they would need a depth d man

Hopefully Bill doesn’t come up with a new blog within the next few minutes or next full hour but I would like to ask for the thoughts and opinions you guys might be able to provide in relation to the Kobe Bryant tragic death.

First let me say, the death is that. Tragic.

Today a radio personality by the name of Mike Valeni have his thoughts and opinions of Bryant’s death his sports radio show. He said that the death Kobe Bryant is tragic but he wanted his listeners to be aware that their were eight other people on that helicopter. He also went on to say that, he could connect with the types who take the loss of a celebrity to high levels. Like leaving work people because they’re so upset over the loss. I guess in his work place at his studio, people had to walk out when Prince died because they were so upset.

I think to some degree, I have to agree with him. I want fit those reading this, there is no question. This is the biggest icon we’ve ever lost of this era. This generation. Young 20 somethings watch Kobe play. Prince, Michael Jackson, lets face it, those are icons of yesterday. I’m talking about right.

With all of this said, when I heard Kobe Bryant died. I thought it was fake news. I read an article that he and his daughter were on their way to a basketball tournament. My first question was (which was a stupid question I suppose), was his daughter with him? My mind went to the safety of the child. I got a better idea of what happened. In that moment, Kobe’s death did hit me harder than any celebrity death, Ever! But I took a moment, about ten minutes to be sad and than I moved forward. I realized that I lost an uncle to Leukemia a year and a half ago. I lost my grandmother to the lung cancer suddenly nearly 4 years ago. I carry their deaths with me every day but I won’t carry Kobe’s death with me because I didn’t know him on a person level. I’m very sad. This is very sad and my heart goes out to their families and they’ve been on my mind for over 24 hours now.

Reaching my point, I just may have lost friend because this is how I’m feeling. He posted that this radio host is a piece of poop for feeling this way and anyone who agrees is to. Am I a piece of poop? Before anyone answers, I don’t care about the views of Feanor or Claudefather, I know where they stand. They’re two people who put pride ahead of being reasonable people. I just want to have an objective outlook and I wanna know where your heads are at.

I believe the point being made by this radio host is not to value one life over eight others within this tragedy. From my understanding, Kobe is from Philly, so maybe you guys can give a different perspective.

People need to be allowed to have their feelings, the issue is we put judgement into it, why not feel as we wish and just except how others feel. I think if you asked all who you mentioned they would be sad about all the loses, they just choose to discuss others parts more or less. Some might use it to promote themselves, a show or just like to hear themselves talk.

It is ok for you to share with them how they make you feel and why. I think it is how we leave the conversations. We might disagree or even argue but we should want to leave everybody better than we found them. So let it all out but in the end we should try and leave the conversation with a respect. It’s not that they have to leave you that way, you can’t make them, you can only lead by example and hope they catch on.

That’s how I feel. I mean, if I left work for every sudden celebrity death or tragic plane accident or mass shooting because it feels like we have too many, I would have a job anymore....

Actually, speaking of of the radio host I brought up. His views on Neil Pearl were way more offensive but nobody is talking about that.

Really at a loss for words...I’ve thought a lot about Gianna and the other girls and the siblings. I’m Kobe’s age. I have a daughter in middle school.

I just can’t ....no worse...it’s terrible to imagine.

Crazy, right? Nobody would do this in a mass shooting where like 20 lives are intentionally lost but sports icon dies and suddenly your calling off work?? Yes it’s terrible but my god.

As a drummer myself, Neil Pert was always my favorite. The loss flat out sucked, but we of logical minds know that we’ll lose people who meant a lot to us.

I lost a friend today to cancer. There will be no news coverage. It’s up to us to determine the amount of space we delegate our grief to. How people grieve is a personal endeavor. The way I, or anyone else handles the loss of someone close to them is up to them. I won’t judge them on it.

What I do question is the amount of media coverage devoted to celebrities and sports figures upon their deaths. No one gave much thought to the other families of those lost in the same crash. Nor was much coverage devoted to the firefighters who died fighting the fires in Australia, etc. So forgive those of us who say, gee, that’s sad, prayers and thoughts to the family, and move on. And not being disrespectful to the deceased, let’s notforget he was charged with raping a young woman while married.

Humans, especially, celebrities and sports figures, are not without flaws, so let’s not deify them. A brief moment to wish the survivors of those we never knew, peace and understanding with their loss, and move on.
