I don't think the Flyers, in their current state, have a lot of depth because that expected depth was already implemented due to various multiple injuries.

What I know for sure is that I am enjoying watching this year's team play and I plan to keep doing that

Prior to the Forsberg era, there was no salary cap in the NHL. As far as depth goes, most teams nowadays get thin pretty quickly.
- bmeltzer

The cap isn’t an issue. In 2010, we could afford to sit JvR in the Stanley Cup Final for Dan Carcillo or get through the first round without Jeff Carter. With a full line up, Laviolette had the choice of 5 really good NHL fourth line players players in Blair Betts, Ian Laperriere, Darrel Powe, Dan Carcillo and Arron Asham. That wasn’t a team reliant on it one or two players or we’re doomed to throw the rest of the season. I think we all know how big a role that fourth line played that season. In fact, I can’t think of very many Richards and Carter era teams where they couldn’t afford to sit a guy.

The Jagr season, Jagr nor Briere played a healthy, full season but we had the guns up front to keep moving forward and make a push. I think JvR was out for half of that season.

In past years the Flyers could afford to sit a Vincent LeCavalier because the depth was much stronger than it is right now.

Not knowing if Giroux or Raffl is going to play center or winger from one night to the next is a bad sign we have to Accommodate for big holes in my opinion. I don’t mind Chris Stewart but we all know he’s not a good depth player. Vorobyev and Rubtsov do not look close to handling a fourth line role. That’s why we’re calling up one over the other at different times.

Bill don’t forget about the game changers in the press box tho, we need some of those.
- ClaudeFather

Consider the talent in this group, all of whom have been paid, at times, to not play: Kyle Turris, Brendan Perlini, Colin Miller, Ilya Kovalchuk, Marc Staal, Pavel Zacha, David Backes, Tyler Toffoli, Kevin Fiala, Jason Spezza, Mikkel Boedker, Loui Eriksson, Bobby Ryan, Brent Seabrook, Shayne Gostisbehere….
Looking around the league not many game changers in the press box...
- ClaudeFather

I guess you weren’t looking hard enough.

Bobby Ryan lmao, seabrook even better. Kovalchuk was a rut in LA, backes he’s been real good for the past few years. Boedker and erkkson real game changers. Stfu please

Half of your list was completely erroneous , a young kid who hasn’t amounted to much , a guy on the trade block who’s been held out of games, some other young guys struggling, Marc staal... who’s a game changer on that list? Turris ?

Okay, I used the term “game changer” as a figure of speech. Even a big hit can change the flow of a game. Hints Mike Richards hit on David Krejci in the Boston series.

Ilya Kovalchuk has 8 points in 8 games with Montreal. The LA Kings were a bad team before, during and after his time there. I don’t know what a “rut” is but you were definitely quick to mumble something to make a defense for yourself.

Glad you acknowledged Turris now because you ignored the first name that I brought up, all to continue being a jack ass.

Yes, Bobby Ryan isn’t a good example. However a player like Marc Staal could go to a Cup contender and put them over the top by being an upgrade. Spezza would upgrade even our group of centers right now, if we really wanted to keep Giroux on wing. What and who could be considered a game changer is debatable, as you’ve harped on those two words. I don’t think Kevin Hayes is a game changer but fans here do believe he is.

When I heard the story, I was heart broken for a moment like I lost a family member. Since that moment, I’ve tried to ignore it. Not out of disrespect or because I don’t care. This is crushing news. It’s just with it being Monday tomorrow, the big wave of talking about this is coming tomorrow, which could result in along week. Just mentally preparing myself for it.

The Flyers are out of a playoff spot due to the division they play in not because they are a mediocre team. They are 11th overall in the standings.

I think they have good depth. They've gotten positive minutes out of a lot of call ups. Not sure how much depth they are expected to have. They had six forwards out at the same time at one point.

Losing Lindblom was really tough. His overall game and production can't be replaced easily.

I would like to see someone with term and around the same age. Like Hertl or Rakell.

Rakell and Ghost are kinda similar. Both started there NHL careers with success and have cooled off over the last couple of years.

I'd like to see the league go back to where the top 8 teams in the conference make the playoffs. Even with that said, if that was the case, the Flyers are still out of the playoffs currently and still a bubble team.

Thanks for posting the link. The basis for the rumor is about what Sam Carchidi "believes" the Flyers are going to do. It may or may not happen but that is not a quality source in my opinion.

So the source is speculation from Carchidi. The same genius who wanted to trade Couturier for Bernier in 2013 because Laughton was "close".

I've been a huge lakers fan since I was a kid and Kobe was my favorite all time BB player. Just like a punch to the gut for me. What a tragedy. As you say, it almost doesn't seem real. RIPKobe.

It's terrible. This may be the most tragic and sudden death of a global icon in my generation. Can't say I've had someone I considered a childhood hero pass away, especially at such a young age. It makes it even more devastating that his daughter was with him. I can't imagine what Kobe's wife and daughters are going though, as well as the other families who lost their loved ones. I woke up hoping it was just a bad dream.
