Yes and no. They were a true punk band but went mainstream when punk got popular in the 80s like a lot of punk bands did. Some say they “sold out” for money but I don’t agree with that. Got to grab the cash when you can.

What really confuses me that a music genre like punk is supposed to be all about non-conformity and anarchy yet there are some people who are punk “purists”. If your band doesn’t conform to these ideals of punk then you’re called sell-outs.
