Is anyone else rooting for the Leafs to make the playoffs because they are petrified of them getting a top 3 pick ?
Cause I am. - Pegullaville
Yeah, I am too. What makes the Sabres' task more daunting is that all our other division (and conference) rivals get to make improvements also. And they won't all just be sitting on their hands and waiting for prospects to improve. |

Detroit is going to add a premier talent, however will most likely be a bottom 10 team again next year. Stevie Y will be patient.
Ottawa will get two cracks at it and unless they go spending like mad is also a year or two away.
Tampa will have to subtract, however this years team may have its best shot yet at winning it all.
Toronto will have some maneuvering to do to stay cap compliant and field a capable defence corps.
Boston isn’t getting any younger.
Florida is going to potentially lose a few pieces this offseason as well and have $10M tied up in a goalie. |

That is a player you move this years first for if truly available.
23 years old, helps the team win for “now on”.
I wonder what San Jose would be looking for though in a trade for him. |

I agree with this, anti - tank move
trading an 18 year old for a 23 year old proven player.
Sj - needs a top pick
Interesting player too target.

Botterill has interest, probably the one player has he the most interest in. But remember, Reinhart and Montour contracts will come first, |

It’s not necessarily an anti-tank move, I’d cream in my shorts if we managed to get a top 10 pick this year.
If we are going to move a first rounder though, that is the type of player I’d do it for though cause his best hockey is ahead of him not behind him (or close to falling off a cliff) |

I wonder with Anaheim tearing it down, if they’d consider moving Gibson. I’d move a first for him too. |

The problem with botts is you can always fine a cap space. Look at what the hawks leafs and other teams have done to circumvent the salary cap.
Will it cost you something to do it? Yes, but it can be done.
botts and his salary cap management in Pitt is what he known for and writing the CBA yet he’s terrible at beating his own system.
That’s actually kind of sad. |

Anything over 5 a year for Montour and he should be gone. Eating money won't happen, all though he may have to with Bogo to get rid of him or they keep him and let him rot. If he moves the 1st this year ( and he may do that for the right player I was told) it will be a good addition. |

I respect the wild optimism. The Sabres still have a few concerns that JB may want to consider addressing.
-Goaltending seems like a glaring weakness. Ullmark needs to be given a contract, and a raise is to be expected. Hutton is bad and still under contract. Theoretically, Botts could jettison him, but that does not seem like his style. May be stuck with him.
-Forward depth is nearly non-existent. VO and Sam would seem to be in line for generous raises; eating into the perceived vast cap space.
Quite a few holes to fill, and relying on TT and Casey to be major contributors to the top 6 is something of a leap of faith.
And any significant injury to Jack most likely kills any playoff hopes.
Risto, Dahlin, Joker, Miller, and McCabe is a decent start. Montour will be looking for a generous raise. I guess Borgen could be a possible 7th.
Now it sounds like word is out among players that Buffalo may not be the Hockey Heaven fans here would like to believe it is. Many players seem downright miserable here. So I would not expect free agents to be pushing each other out of the way to sign here. It seems there is some work to be done. |
