With VO out it especially makes no sense, unless they are trying to showcase Vessey
- hubie

Maybe, but really what is Vessey worth probably a third at most. I'd rather keep him and sign him to a year or two bridge for what he's making now. If he is a toss in on a bigger deal to get rid of some of the dead weight around here, I'm all for it.

More likely, Ralph just thinks Skinner should be driving a line of his own. I have to imagine that Skinner resigned here (after talking to Ralph) believing he would be playing alongside Eichel. Would think he's pretty annoyed at this point. I like seeing him smiling and having fun with Eichel. I really wish that was the pair that they kept together rather than Eichel and Rino.

From Chicago reporter on Fansided:

"The Blackhawks also could add a forward. They don’t need a Top 6 forward, they just need to add depth. If they go with TVR, Michael Frolik wouldn’t be a bad move to make either. As we’ve seen, he was traded to the Sabres for a fourth-round pick. The Blackhawks could make the same move for Frolik.

Instead of giving up something big, the Blackhawks could move a third-round pick and maybe a forward prospect from Rockford. Someone who the Blackhawks don’t plan on re-signing."

If Botts can get a 3rd and a prospect from the Blackhawks for Frolik that would be a heck of a deal. Even getting just the pick would be a win.

Earlier in the a article he mentioned trading a 4th round pick for Trevor VanRiemsdyk. Bogo, even with his decline in play, is arguably still better than TVR. If they could send him and Frolik for a 3rd, a 4th and a prospect I'm sure no one here would be complaining, even if we retain 1/2 Bogo's salary. Actually, that's not true. Some here will still complain.

If (When) the Sabres are in sell mode, the move has got to be that the Sabres retain salary on Bogo. There's no reason not too do that to increase his value.

Then again...they didn't pay the ROR bonus....

I don't think we should fire Botts. At this point, although sad and I gave up my seasons this year, I am on board with his patient re-build. This off season better be good though.

I'm not enamored with Vessy, but I also think that if we had a 2C, the rest of the team under Eichel would make more sense and be more productive. Vessy is okay for a bottom 1/2 forward making 2.5 for 2 more years in my opinion.

The first line is still producing without Skinner. I understand wanting to get him going, but I also understand that we are severely lacking in secondary scoring.
Also, though he started slow, Vesey has been playing better and is back to a 25 point pace. What's notable to me is that his three seasons with the NYR, a playoff team each year, he was a negative +/- each year. This is the first time in his career he's been a positive +/-. He's not going to get the 35 points he had last year, but he has career highs in Corsi, Fenwick and PDO, all while playing 3 minutes less per game.

Also - Re: Sam and Montour, what will it take to sign them? Think it's going to take 7 and 5. I'd be content with that.

Joe Yerdon says "everyone" is at practice. Feel like he woulda mentioned Olofsson if he wasn't there. It's about time he gets into a non contact jersey.

If they get the production that Skinner, Mojo, Sobotka had then this is not a bad thing, unless you were hoping for Frolik to be flipped at the deadline.

Ya know, the Sabres could have just kept the 4th round pick. They didn't need to trade for Frolik. They may actually like him and intend on re-signing him.

He is helping though. The Sabres PK on the year is just over 75% (not sure what it was exactly before he got here) and is just under 85% since he's been here. In contrast Calgary went from 83% to 74% without him. I know it's a small sample size, but his PK ability was one of the factors that brought him here I would think.
I doubt that there is any plan to resign him as he will be turning 32 in a couple weeks and doesn't necessarily fit in our timeline, but if he can fill one of the roles we were lacking than I don't see it as a bad move.
Only the tankers would be upset about a minor move like this. Scandella nor a 4th round pick were going to be the missing piece in getting a 2C.

Townsend is writing about Josh Anderson and thinking that Columbus might be willing to move him. If true, hope Botts is on the phone
