RE: Kakko and Svechnikov

what contributed greatly to Svech's improved play in the back 3rd ofthe season last year was trust.

After spending most of the year on the 3rd and 4th line, Brind'amour started to take the reins off of him a little bit and he flourished.

Prior to that he'd get his ass stapled to the bench for missed defensive assignments.

Rod's pretty tough on his most talented guys, especially when he knows how much they're capable of.

Kakko, I think, can be similar, but I don't know if the Rangers current style of play lends itself well to that type of thing. Especially given that 10 ofhis points have come on the PP, while Svech didn't spend much time on the Powerplay, and what he had was on the 2nd unit.

Kakko looks tired imo. Don't think he is used to the travel and workload

My sense is the Rangers want to take as long as they can to see where they are at the deadline. Which is to say they haven’t pulled the plug on the season yet. It’s a daunting task in the Muscled Metro where six teams are already at 60 points or more, but the Blueshirts (50 points) want to use the dozen games left before the deadline to see if they can make a push. It signals that they want to compete again as soon as possible. Which means they’ve not ruled out re-signing their pending UFAs, if possible. Kreider is the headliner on the leaguewide trade deadline rental list and the team hasn’t begun contract talks yet.

“We haven’t been talking, which is not a big deal because there’s no rush,’’ Kreider’s agent Matt Keator told me Wednesday. Indeed, all it takes is one conversation about 10 days from the deadline to know whether or not both sides can get a deal done. Pending UFA Jesper Fast, a popular player and teammate, could also be on the move to a contending team looking to add bottom-six depth. But I think all things being equal the Rangers would rather re-sign him because he’s such a great role model for the younger players. Like Kreider, his camp had not heard from the Rangers yet regarding an extension. Still lots of time there to figure things out. And finally, there’s the three-goalie situation with the Rangers listening on Alexandar Georgiev but not necessarily fully committed to moving the 23-year-old. This can all be dealt with in June, too. But what I would say is the Rangers want to turn the page on rebuilding and take the next step sooner rather than later. Which means if they do trade Kreider, for example, the return will warrant it. It’s not a must to deal him.

Svech is also a better talent then Kakko IMO. If they play him in top 6 I think the game will slow down once he gets used to playing with some better players and against better players

They played him on the first line with Zib and Kreider vs the isles and they looked very good as a trio. Hopefully they use those 3 together some more.

I saw an article saying that it kinda stunned him how good the NHL was. I do think they rushed Kakko where he shoulda started in Hartford. To late now, hopefully he gets going. Next year he should be much better

I don't think it's a matter of "rushing" him. These coaches and management know the game and the players they are watching somewhat better than we do, I would hope. If they decide Kakko is better served in the NHL and Chytil is better served going down to the AHL, there have to be reasons. They see what the issues are and have a feel for what SHOULD be the best tonic for those ailments.
With Kaapo they decided he could learn more and faster playing against the best.
I trust their experience and judgement over my opinions based on blogs, articles and watching games on TV.

I generally agree. I think KK is going to be a very god player though. I do believe he was rushed into the NHL before he was ready, and a month or so to get acclimated to the North American game would have helped a lot.

Mother(frank)er. My teams been "rebuilding" since 2013! Sort of. Maybe 2014. You guys are at what, year two? If can fight your way from rebuild to compete in two seasons I'm going to be so jealous!

IMO I think he would have been better served going to the Wolf Pack getting comfortable and playing big minutes than to start the season with the big club. Being pessimistic, I was thinking he would have 15-20 goals and 35 to 40 points on the season, not to say he cant catch fire, but those totals seem to be out of reach.

This team can't string together more than 2 wins in a row. They are a much better team than when the season started, but I think we are looking at a third sell-off in a month:

Haley: Gone
McKegg: Good 4th liner, if re-signs cheap, Stays
Howden: Stays Unless we get another young center in trade: Robert Thomas?
Buchnevich: One year left on contract , Stays
Kreider: GONE
Strome: Stays on cheap 1 year deal, only question is if he chooses arbitration
Fast: As long as he provides hometown discount ---- Stays
Smith: Gone -- will go to a team like Ottawa to take up cap space

Most of this seems realistic to me, with the exception to getting Robert Thomas. I get the feeling he is not on the table for St. Louis. That would be something like us moving on from Fox, IMO. No logical reason for them to do it.

Thomas will cost a heck of a lot to acquire.
