Yeah, it really raised the value of defensemen that do play the powerplay in fantasy teams.
- Scabeh

Not just fantasy teams man...look around.

Zaitzev is a perfect example.

His 35 points as a rookie increased his value. He was a “PP guy”

Lol
Dreger is such a troll

Dubas should find that GM and trade Kapanen to him for his highest offer. Take advantage of an idiot.

This was fascinating to read. I really dislike when "Insiders" (Gord Miller loves to do this) quote anonymous Gms or execs;' opinions to prove a comment wrong like it's gospel. An anonymous GM who could be really bad told him this, so MJ is wrong. LOL

And Andi did deserve crap for that lazy "Amazing what happens when you play with Tavares" quip. She sounds like a moron.

The Nylander hate is laughable. he's so underrated.

Gostisbehere has been awful since that as well. Think they both had lucky years and racked up quite a few PP points to make themselves look better than they actually are.
- LeafGuy89

Only 7 points (all assists) for Skjei in that rookie season.
Regardless, I think my question to you guys has been answered well enough. Just wasn't sure what non-Ranger fans thought about the idea of acquiring him.

Would anyone honestly prefer to keep Kapanen over Nylander? Hilariously dumb.
Nylander is a 1st liner. Kapanen is an ok 2nd liner and prereably 3rd liner.

Gord Miller is great, "Last night I was having dinner with a GM and he told me..."

"I just got a text from an agent who told me..."

Last year he bragged he had dinner with a GM that said that at least one of Marner or Matthews will get an offersheet and sign it. That was his big argument why an offersheet is coming.

To be fair, there are 31 GMs, and what . . . like 40+ AGMs in the league. There are certainly bound to be some that don't like Nylander or the way he plays - at the very least they buy into the negative media hype without having done their due diligence on him.

For example - while there are many scientists who believe that climate change is a serious threat, there are still a number of accredited scientists who believe climate change is a hoax.

You can be qualified for your job and still have a different or uneducated position on parts of it.

The counterpoint: You need to talk about the Leafs for 2 hours every lunch hour. If you go into it all happy, you run out of stuff to say after 10 minutes.

They have to create stories to fill 10 hours of air every week. It leads to this bizarre hyperbole.

It's the sharp part of the sword that is being in a media-mad market like Toronto.

Well there's never anything happy with these people.

What's interesting as well is, do they repeat Gms who say complimentary things about Leafs players? The "GM Told Me" bit is always a shot at a player or the Leafs.
If a GM told Dreger last year he thought no offersheets were coming, would he have ever repeated it? No.

And he really is trying to say someone's opinion is wrong because of an anonymous source no one knows who it is.

Of course he wouldn't have. We live in an era of clicks and attention - not truth.

If the truth is boring, you're one and done. And eventually forgotten.

If the story is enticing, people are clicking. People are paying attention. You're relevant.

Whenever you deal with any media these days, you pick from it, you don't listen to it. You have to find the truth by seeking common threads from multiple varying sources. Not TSN where Dreger "reports" one thing, and then 11 other guys from his network all report what Deger "reported".

But if you can get citations from Friedman, LeBrun, and even Dreger, that state they have spoken with sources who have said something (because they will credit one another when they are using each other as the source), there's usually something in there.

Remember: It's not like Marner didn't get an offer sheet. He just didn't sign it.

He just says it how it is...You can tell Dreger hates covering the Leafs 24/7 and he takes any chance he gets at jabbing them. Petrillo is the worst

MJ brought out straight facts that Nylander is not a perimeter player and Dreger took it to heart and made up some lie.

And also about Andersen....Is he wrong? Expectations for Andersen are much higher than how he is playing. It is simple math to see that if Freddy played even close to his normal self the Leafs probably have some extra points in the standings. They are 3 points out...do the math.

The D has been middle of the pack, pretty close to where we all expected them to be.

I love Gord Miller. Don't care much for him on things like Leafs Lunch and what not, but he's one of my favourite play by play commentators. I know we don't have many other good ones so maybe that's why he stands out

I was gonna say Chris Cuthbert as well. He is good, just says the wrong player quite often but I can live with that over Hughson ANY day.

Seems to be a rough industry, none of the good ones really hit their stride until they also have early onset dementia.

Take the wins with the losses I guess. 🤷‍♂️

I think Hughson has a great voice for it, I just hate that he hates my team and we always have to deal with him. If he was more objective or at least less partial to just simply hating one team, he'd be better. I think, fairly, he has the best voice of the broadcasters.

I find Cuthbert gets too high pitched at times, but I don't mind him.

For the record, I never said the Leafs should trade Nylander for Geogiev, I said NY wants a proven top 6 forward, not picks or prospects, and Johnsson, nor Kap is going to be enough, so by the process of elimination...

You guys do realize that goaltending stats are partly a reflection of the team in front of them right? If you're team is total poop you probably see more danger chances and likely won't have great stats. Th Leafs got worse defensively, therefore Freddy's stats also got worse. I've always said he was middle of the pack, but you can win with middle of the pack if your defence doesn't suck.

This is a relatively fair statement - you know, from someone who desperately wants to trade Nylander for some team's backup goalie (I know, I know. I'm kidding).

Last year was a great year for the "Defense wins championships" folks to come crawling up from the floor boards, because both St. Louis and Boston are good defensive teams.

You know who isn't? Washington in 2017-18. They were dreadful. They gave up high danger scoring chances like crazy. They were third worst in the league. They were also fourth worst in scoring chances surrendered. Holtby crapped the bed part way through that year, too - with Grubauer coming in to spell him. Holtby rose to the occasion in the playoffs - the Capitals didn't play any differently. They traded high danger chances, and capitalized better than their opposition.

I am not arguing that the Leafs don't have porous defense that borders on mind numbingly bad on some nights. I believe if they really buy-in and play as a 5-man unit properly, they will be much better. What we see a lot of now is the forward covering for the D at the point is not doing his job properly. It leads to odd-man rushes and lost position in transition.

My take, though is that while defense is defense, it has drastically changed. You can't really interfere or obstruct. You can line up a guy and try to murder him, or even simply maim him for life. Your options are more limited, so a more fluid team offense with responsibilities to be mindful of the defensive position no matter who you are is important. Be a body in the way. Be a stick in the way. Block guys out. Be strong in your position. Cover the lanes, blah, blah, blah. They can still be awful at defense and be very effective at it if they do those things.

That's a bit extreme.

Besides, they probably already see a dominatrix to tell them what a bad boy they've been.
