The trade deadline is less than a month away, and there are teams that have cap space and aren't contenders. If you had to pay a small price to clear cap space to add a better player that's no big deal.

What's the "small price" though? Like you said, they don't have 1sts or 3rd. I don't think non-contenders will do a favor for Arizona by taking their unwanted players/cap space for 4th rounders and lower, and I'm not sure Arizona wants to give up second rounders when they don't have a 1st or 3rd for the next 2 years.

I'm not saying they CAN'T clear space, I just don't think it's as easy as you may think.

That's really one of the two points here. It only takes one GM to agree to do something so nothing is really impossible. The last few years with the way the Cap has been, deadline day has been a dud. The other point is that dealing players to create cap space creates a hole so now you've really added to your needs. Teams in a playoff spot normally don't trade a defenseman averaging 23 minutes a game like Goligoski to create cap space.

If NHL team's actually pay attention to this garbage, why would they want to trade for him then?

cause expected goals are more important than actual long-term results:

G% xG% Difference
20132014 56.06 52.55 +3.51
20142015 55.84 50.79 +5.05
20152016 49.35 44.11 +5.24
20162017 31.51 43.16 -11.65
20172018 52.46 43.96 +8.5
20182019 49.45 50.05 -0.6
20192020 55.81 44.88 +10.93

since soderberg consistently outperforms xG's, all shots must created equal!!

You need to get with it Tumbleweed. Winning the shot attempt war is far more important than the goal war. Soderberg's GF% may be 55.81% but his corsi is 45%. As we learned from Mr. Tanner, anyone with a Corsi of 45% should immediately be replaced.
