Who needs a 1st round pick when you can just draft a 1st round caliber player with a 2nd? |

Matthews replaced at the All-Star game by Tkachuk.
Talk about a downgrade. - GreatGigInTheSky
I'm sorry I was told that Tkachuk was better than Svechnikov? |

Not sure he'll get that. He hasn't established himself long enough. He did not get great offers last summer, - RogerRoeper
Lerher has been a top 3 goalie the past 2 years. And he left a great defensive system and went to a much worse one and still is playing great. - RogerRoeper

If you mean Matthew, then I guess they are different players but I think it is a tough call between the two.

No, Brady.
There were folks in Raleigh advocating drafting Tkachuk instead. |

Sometimes I think the media reads this board and does articles on what I say. - RogerRoeper
meh.
1) gibson is the best goalie because of his fenwick save %? because he has ton of defenders who can't get the puck out of the zone but do a good job of getting in shooting lanes he is ranked the best?
2) the GSAX was interesting. the nhl was falling into a very predicatable league. it has opened up in the last couple of years. prior stats aren't as relevant anymore. alll hd chance are not created equal .... and the variance between teams is growing. but keep thinking that they are.
at a minimum, despite a slump, freddy is good value as a $5m keeper. the +10m guys need to make sure that +4 go into the back of the other team's net every night. |

I HATE the way HD scoring chances are measured. I get wanting to work on averages, but basing them almost exclusively on location is a joke when there are a billion variables.
Two shots from the exact same place from the exact same player on the exact same goalie do not necessarily have the same odds of going in. |

It is not a perfect science but it separates the weak attempts.
SV% on its own is an even worse stat to look at. |

hd chance against
isles 475
Leafs 436
shots against
isles 1270
leafs 1260
goals against
isles 2.65
leafs 3.29
isles and leafs have allowed about the same number of shots on net. isles have allowed 39 more hd chance against; almost 10% more.
if hd chances are a good stat, we should trade andersen/hutch for varlarmov/mzarek. isles GA should go up to ~3.5 and leafs should go down to ~2.5 because the isles allow more hd chances, right? |
